you melted the relay contacts together - the relay usually gets the power directly from the battery - the switch only turns the relay on or off. protge cluster may not fit in the mx-3 - especially a 96 mx-3. If you want wiring diagrams you can try http://alldatadiy.com - they are not free though - you have to pay for each car model - but you get discounts for every additional cars i think.
