Does it idle good? If not it could be a crack in the air intake hose. Its a good idea to check the hose very carefully anyway... Bend the hose slightly and look for cracks or holes in the accordion like area of the hose. If that's not the problem you could check the sparkplugs and distributor and of...

Does tightening/loosening the belt reduce the sound - when my engine made the noise i found out that the lock nut on the belt tensioner near the alternator was not tight enough - so after i made the adjustment it would just loosen up on its own and start making the noise.

Also there is a procedure to test MAF in the online manual - Page F1-160 I had similar symptoms once when i was cleaning out the filter - the...

It is very hard to measure it at the lights - everything is kinda sealed and no exposed metal contacts - i kinda stuck the probe in the gap between the bulb and the holder and i could only measure the high beam - it was 10.88

You probably already checked this - but just to make sure - have you checked the drive belt condition/tension - maybe if the belt is damaged or too tight - that might lead to an irregular load when the compressor turns on ...

My 94 1.6L DOHC had the same problem - It made this high pitched whining noise whenever the engine was not warm. I replaced both serpentine belts and the problem was solved. The procedures for belt adjustment is in the online manual pages B1 -006 & 007 - I am sure there is a procedure somewhere ...

Anyone know of a way to clean the throttle body without taking it apart (someone told me to spray a cleaner into the throttle body while the engine is running and open the throttle - i dont kno...

Also someone told me that cleaning the throttle body would help - i havent gotten around to it because i cant find throttle body gasket anywhere...

I have a similar problem with my 94 DOHC ATX - if its on P or N then the engine idles fine at 750 RPM - if i put it on any other gear then the idle goes down to 500 or sometimes even lower. It used to fluctuate a lot - but after replacing the air hose, the coolant temparature sensor, spark plugs, pl...
