Sorry for the late reply...

Just saw this topic and though I'd add my 2 cents... I did the GS alternator swap about a year ago and I had the same problem. Researching further, I found that ALL GS alternators (or any other applicable alternator for the swap) use a longer bolt than the RS alternator. I had to order the bolt from...

I hope it does...

I sure hope it does come to pass...I seem to remember the info about the meet being posted around this time last year and the year before. Do you know of any central Florida meets? I'm like you...I REALLY would like to go to SOME kind of meet...

Flyrtle meet this year?

I missed Flyrtle last year, but 2005 was awesome...haven't heard anything about a 2007 meet though. If anyone knows anything that I don't, please respond. I'm anxious to attend if it's going to happen...

Thanks for the reply.

In that case I'll go with the pre-99 head. Could you possible clarify the water neck thing, though? Are you talking about the outlet for the radiator where the thermo is?

Bad head gasket...Miata head?

Just the other day, I noticed water trickling from underneath the manifold. I checked and noticed that there is oil in the coolant. NOT GOOD. The motor is out of an EGT with stock internals. It's completely N/A (no turbo or other mods as of yet). It's been running great for about 2 years now, and I'...

Just thought I should update for anyone else with the same problem...

I used the IAC valve from my old 1.6 SOHC and now everything works great. The part numbers are the same on both motors, so it just swapped right over. Didn't have to spend a cent!

I don't think it corrected mine. I have a BP though. Never tried it on my 1.6L...

All I know is when I rotated the distributor to the right a little, all my problems went away. The transmissions sound and the pinging.

You set the timing with the distributor. Just loosen the bolts and turn it right to retard, left to advance (I think). I turned mine right just a hair.

I'm pretty sure this ONLY applies to the 4cyl. As far as I know, the 6cyl computer will correct any timing changes automatically.

Hope this helps.

I just thought I should post this... I began hearing some pinging a few days ago, so I retarded my timing a little bit. Not only did the pinging stop, but the sound that was coming from my tranny stopped as well. So I guess they were related. If you're still having the problem, try retarding your ti...

A BP would be the easiest for you and they are readily available in most junk yards from the Protoge LX or the Escort GT. Do a search for BP and like Shades said, read the FAQs.

Furthermore, I think most of the problem is the locations of the sensors and the plugs themselves. Basically, the SOHC B6 and the DOHC B6 use different harnesses altogether, and the SOHC is the one that is a direct plug-in for the BP. Hope this helps.

The BP sensors are different from the DOHC B6. The SOHC B6 has the same sensors as the BP. If you have the DOHC and wish to do the swap, your best bet would be to get the engine harness for the SOHC. That's what I did and everything works great.

You might as well try the rod. If that doesn't work, you may have to do the clutch. But the rod is worth a try...much better than dropping the tranny to SEE if it's the clutch/pressure plate...

The DOHC has a different wiring harness because that motor uses different sensors than the SOHC. You'd have to do a lot of splicing in order to make the DOHC harness work. Basically, the plugs aren't the same on the DOHC harness and they won't match up to the sensors on the BP. The SOHC harness has ...
