Turned out there was a problem. Got a new axle and nuts. Cost about $300 Canadian.
A bit pissed about the cost, but these things happen, right?

Is my CV joint going?
So I gave a buddy a ride home in my MX-3, and he, who knows cars pretty well, noticed a low creaking when I'm making sharp turns under power, or easing off the brakes when I'm at a stoplight. He said the creaking, which I'd thought was just the suspension or something, is caused by a "bad CV jo...

Another thing you can try is beefing up the grounding system. This can help because if the grounds are bad, the alt has to work a lot harder to get the electrical system up and running properly. I had the same problem for a long time. I was going throught belts once a month. The last time I changed...

Do a search in this forum, you'll get lots of information. Tightening the belt isn't hard, if that's what needs to happen. You can do that yourself (the tensioning bolt is on the aft side of the alternator). But be damn sure you do it right, or you'll snap that bolt like a breadstick. That happened ...

But for some reason, only when I first start the car. When it's good and warmed up, it doesn't make any noise. Maybe it's just not tight enou...

Driver's window hard to roll up; how to fix it?
Hopefully there's a simple fix for this one: the window on the driver's side rolls down okay, but getting it back up takes a lot of work.
Any way I can make it smoother?

Sounds exactly like a problem I was having recently. The problem turned out to be a poorly-fitting alternator belt. I replaced it, and it works fine now. Same deal: losing electrical power suddenly for no reason, battery draining. When the alternator belt slips, it can't generate enough power to run...

Replacing cargo/trunk lid hatchback thingy?
When I bought my MX-3, it was missing the trunk lid. I didn't mind, because I didn't think it was a big deal, and besides, I've noticed that many (even most) MXs don't have them. However, I now think it's a bit of an eyesore. Kind of hurts the looks to have my booster pack, ice scraper, tool kit and...

HOOOORAY!!!! [/i] I did it! Scraped some knuckles, bruised some arms, but it got done! I tell you, that damn power steering belt was a major-league pain in the butt to loosen. Finally, after loosening all the required bolts, I had to lean on the power steering pump housing. Then I had a hell of a t...
