Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

I'd send the dizzy off, but i'm now in urgent need of the car working, so am banking on this being shipped next-day and sorted on the friday. I'm supposed to be taking the car to a show on the friday night. Question... if the VAF sensor was faulty, is there any way it could cause this? having the ar...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

OK, thanks all. I'm going to swap over the VAF and check the TDC sensor again tonight as a last ditch effort, then order a reconditioned dizzy tomorrow for £235 :crying: On an unrelated note, I got those nite-glo dials in yesterday, any hints or tips when installing? Is it a big job to do? -David &q...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Was looking not at a new distributor - but just the ignition unit? See here... http://www.quitegood.com/menu.php?&supplierRef=probedistributors&cat1=Motoring&cat2=Parts%20n%20Accessories-Distributors&category=MAZDA&subCategory=IGNITION%20MODULES&subSubCategor y=MX Thanks <sma...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Hi, thanks to all who are giving advice here by the way, it's invaluable. So am I right in thinking I can order the ignition module from probedistributors.co.uk and have this fixed for £125? or should i really just bite the bullet and buy a new dizzy for £225? will order it tomorrow (6/9/04) pending...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Argh, turns out the dizzy from the MX6 is different. took my distributor apart and gave the contacts a clean, nothing too out of the ordinary. also checked the TDC sensor to make sure it was clean, again, nothing new. good news was that is finally started today, ran fine in neutral at 2500rpm for a ...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Hmm.

The car now wont start up! - is this synonymous with a broken distrobutor?
I can acquire one from an MX-6 (AFAIK they have the same part numbers), would swapping them fix this problem?

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

IanL: Indeed the HKS filter is off (actually, it was following your advice that I removed it! (involved upsetting a few of my friends!)) I've got my dad looking at it today (40yrs mechanical engineering experience) so will hopefully find out what's going on - but will pass on your suspicion to him. ...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

It gets worse....

Now the car wont drive - it cuts out at a certain rev speed. it'll idle fine forever, but will just die at 2500rpm.
at first it was 4000rpm it would die at
then 3750
then 3000
now 2500... just stalls.

oh dear
can anyone help? :(

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Argh.. scratch that last response (AGAIN!). Now - the car idles normally and is fine, but will cut out at high speed (60mph+). Checked all connections and everything is fine, but if I want to drive it's got to be at low (legal) speeds!!! Plan of action today is to put stock filter back on and hope t...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Hi Guys, thanks a lot for the support here, unfortunately again it seems the problem was rather trivial. the air filter (despite already being cut back) was still touching the air intake valve, not sure why it was fine to start with, but having cut it WAY back, the problem seems to have gone... than...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Thanks. I've now encountered another more serious problem. Yesterday while driving in town it was idling fine as usual (waiting in traffic), then the revs dipped close to 0.. engine lights came on and it stopped itself from stalling. 10 minutes later I'm parked outside a house and it does the same, ...

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Aha, I used to prefer the quiet power, but recently fancied a change to see how it goes - can always drop back to the standard airbox!

Regarding the K&N - I was unable to find one for this particular car?? Did this guy buy a universal filter and make a custom connector for it or what?

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Ian, try copying and pasting the URL into a new browser window... ;-) thanks for the more technical explanation as to what went wrong. in regards to performance.. it seems to have more response below 4000rpm (previously it had been a touch slow) - also the growl the new filter gives is superb.. :)

Re: Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Thanks for the response/advice lakersfan1, but I found out what was causing the issue! While sitting around in the local cruiser car park, me and my buddies were discussing the design of the HKS filter. If you have a look at http://www.6gc.net/images/part_photos/230_2.jpg you can see the arc'd bits ...

Erk! Induction kit install gone wrong! (or has it?)

Hi there, I'm new around here, this is my first post, so be gentle with me! ;-) I have a 1994 UK spec V6 Limited Edition (1 of 150, 134bhp standard), which until today was standard. Fitted a HKS Super mega flow induction kit and all seems well in terms of connection (was fairly simple to do..) but w...
