Re: J-Bird's 92 V6 & its "issues"

Haha, gee thanks, if I had nads i'd be one sorry chica. But no, I haven't paid for a VAF, this is just what my mechanic told me it was worth. Perhaps he's trying to screw me?? When he did the initial work (timing belt etc.) he did show me all the old parts he took off the car, but who knows what len...

J-Bird's 92 V6 & its "issues"

Hia! My original post has gone the way of the purple buffalo, so I decided to start a new one to get a little advice on the continuing issues of my car. If you read the original post you'd remember my car was idling a little low & the revs were all out of whack, climbing slightly when I disengag...

Re: What yr to buy?

My 1992 (V6 DOHC) MX-3 has the stock K8DE and it has 130hp, so I don't think its much different than any other year with a stock engine. 1992's have a few bugs that it seems were worked out in the 93's (TPS issues it seems). I've seen lots of 93's for sale, and that was also the 25 anniversary year ...

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

Hee hee!! Ok, K8DE it is.... sometimes I wonder how it would be to drive from the right hand side on a road system built for left hand drivers....

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

Hmmm, so because my VIN starts with a "J" then my car comes from Japan right? So my engine would actually be a K8ZE?? 140hp?? Thanks!! Now I can understand what you guys are all talking about with your "K" talk. Hahaha, my VIN actually starts with the "JM" which coincid...

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

Thanks man!!
I'll try to get that done tonight, then go for a spin & run the codes again.

Ok, i've seen so much of the KLZE K8 KLDE stuff on here, and I really don't understand how it all works. :p )

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

Ok, I just talked to my mechanic, and he asked that I clear any codes that may be in the memory & then re-run them to make sure i'm getting accurate codes. Could someone please let me know how to do this?? Brad (mechanic) told me that disconnecting the battery & then turning on something lik...

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

It is a snazzy little rocket isn't it?? Seems this is a common problem then, is yours also a 92? I'm going to call my mechanic today & tell him about the CEL codes I got, see what he can tell me. If you haven't pinpointed your problem, the link in this thread to the "Check Engine Light Code...

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

Y'know, I think you may be right about the TPS, I think my clutch needs adjusting anyway. That was something I first thought of when I bought the car, but wasn't sure of. I also think its something to do with the VAF, cause it has the small surges, and sometimes bogs out when you're slowing down, or...

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

Ok, I've done a diagnostic & also changed the plugs on my car. First of all, some of the plugs were pretty oily, other than the head gasket, what could be causing that?? The diagnostic gave me what I interpret to be an 08 and a 22. 08 being the VAF, which was assumed in why the engine was surgin...

Re: Calgary MX-3 Mini-Meet Oct 9th

Hey - I'm a new owner of an MX-3, but I doubt i'll be able to make it the 9th as i'll probably be out of town. I'll have to check out your site though, as i'm in Calgary & didn't realise there was a club out of this city!!

Re: Couple Questions About Mx-3s!

I am a new owner of a 1992 mx-3 V6. I drove it about 400km home as soon as I bought it, and it ran great!! When I got it home, I took it for a 140pt. inspection & found lots of little things wrong. Nothing big, except my mechanic & I couldn't find any proof that the timing had ever been chec...

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

Thanks again, all of you have been very helpful!!

Unfortunately, the surging has nothing to do with my clutching, if it was me bogging it out & not realising it, then I would say i'm not fit to be on this website, let alone driving!! ;)

Re: New MX-3 Owner - Need some help

To elaborate a little more - when I start the car it revs at about 2000rpm for the first minute, then goes down to about 1500rpm. Longer you leave it idling, the lower the revs get. I used to have an old Escort that did this to help warm the engine up faster, but it didn't go up to 2000rpm, just 150...
