Re: MX 3 RS W/80 whp vs RSX & STI
Casino - "I find it hard to believe" I could care less what you find hard. I am glad you feel like I would have no chance but the truth is that 120 TORQUE will not always own a 90 TORQUE off the line. I also found out that the type S doesn't have any more Torque than the regular RSX. And a...

Re: MX 3 RS W/80 whp vs RSX & STI
I have done some additional research and here is what I found out. Getting off the line has little to do with HP and has everything to do with TORQUE - how much you have and how well the car and driver can take advantage of what's there. I had my car on the dyno a few weeks ago and I got over 90. I ...

Re: MX 3 RS W/80 whp vs RSX & STI
I didn't come on here to brag about the great kills I got with my mighty 1.6 SOHC running 80whp. I posted this to get some opinions on why my car did so well against them off the line. Why would I make that up? I promise there is no BS going on here. If you don’t believe me then I suggest you grab a...

Re: Can I take off my ugly heat shield
Thanks for the info. If ceramic coating in too expensive then I might just paint it.

Re: MX 3 RS W/80 whp vs RSX & STI
The RSX is a type S. My neighbor is a Mazda mechanic and he says I would have had no chance with my 1.6 if the RSX was launched right. He also says that it does not take much to beat someone off the line no matter what cars you are racing if one guy spins his wheels too long or doesn't give it enoug...

Re: MX 3 RS W/80 whp vs RSX & STI
All I can tell you is what happened. I know that if the STI guy weren’t babying his new car the result would have been a lot different. But my brother in the RSX wasn't babying. It surprised me too. Unless I jumped the gun on the start (Which I don't think I did) or he was not paying attention, but ...

Can I take off my ugly heat shield
1.8 SOHC in an mx3 - I want to take off the heat shield and grind off the mounting brackets on the exhaust headers. I am also thinking about having them ceramic coated if it does not cost too much. If I do this will the heat melt the plastic on the fan or something? Why is it there and can I just ge...

bmwm3guy - that comment was not cool. My mom is a mentally handicapped parapliegic.
Just kidding, but my car does not suck.

Re: MX 3 RS W/80 whp vs RSX & STI
My friend with the WRX STI had only owned it for about two weeks before this. He admitted that he was scared to launch it hard because he had trouble controlling the thing. He had never driven an AWD car before, much less one with 300hp, until the day he bought it. He really has too much money. But ...

MX 3 RS W/80 whp vs RSX & STI
My buddy rented out a track near my house for the day and I got a few 1/4 mile runs in my 92 RS with 80whp. I have few basic mods. I ran next to my brother who has a brand new Acura RSX with 170 whp. Everyone expected me to get chewed up and spit out right off the line. We ran twice and both times w...

Re: Engine swap question
I tried to do that swap and I quit about 1/4 the way into it because the wiring is so different. If you have the 96 rs tranny, clutch, flywheel and wire harness then you are doing better than I was. That will help you a lot. As far as I know you should be able to do the swap with those parts. The on...

Re: Crazy Idea to Get a BP plus tranny
Another issue is finding a good engine. I really lucked out with finding this 1.8 SOHC with 35,000 miles in great shape for $100. I looked into getting a 1.8 DOHC and it seems that you either have to pay big $$ to get one that is guaranteed or take a big risk that you are buying a large paper weight...

I know, I think you told me that before on another post. I just don't want to get in over my head on my first project.

Re: Crazy Idea to Get a BP plus tranny
I am new to working under the hood. I only learned how to change the oil in my car about 2 years ago. The 1.8 SOHC and 1.6 SOHC are basically the same engine (so I'm told). The only difference is a longer stroke. The swap will basically be taking out the engine and putting one exactly like it back i...
