Re: UNABLE TO START
just follow the intake pipe from the TB outwards. It's between the TB and the air filter, should have a plug on it.

turbocharging 1.6 SOHC
Haha, DONT HATE. I'm working on turbocharging my 1.6 SOHC MX-3. I already have 450 CC injectors, the turbo, downpipe and intercooler. I'm not planning on adding a lot of boost, just for the F$&% of it really, till I can get a BP and then I'll already have everything ready to turbo charge that on...

Re: UNABLE TO START
sounds like it could be a MAF problem to me.... Anyone ever tried to start the car when the maf is disconnected? Sounds similar, would start, then die right away. Check the connections on the maf. If there is nothing wrong with the fuel pump, this should be the next thing you check

Re: SOHC to DOHC
the engine should not look like yours at all. If its a protege, it should have a 1.8, and if you say its a DOHC the top of the engine would be completely different. If his valve cover looks like yours, then it's a SOHC. Its not hard at all to do, just pretty much take yours out and put his in. Read ...

Re: Remote starters...
installing it to a 5 speed should be just as easy as doing it to an Automatic... depending on how you connect it. The only wire to worry about is the actual starter wire. When I install them, I usually find the one wire that goes straight to the starter, and connect it there, so there would never be...

Re: Backpreasure myth
i'm not an engineer or anything, but my guess is that one of the main reasons you need a certain ammount of back pressure is so that the exhaust valves can close faster since there will be an almost balanced pressure in the cylinder and in the exhaust as opposed to only pressure inside the cylinder ...

Re: turbo manifold $$$?
does anyone know if the exhaust ports will match up from the DOHC and the SOHC? if the ports match up, but the bolt pattern is different, i can still work w/ it ( a lot cheaper to get the holes made then it is to have the whole manifold made)

Re: Under TB mod?
you shouldn't have a problem w/ doing it. Of course i live in Miami, FL so I'm never worried about cold days. its pretty simple, theres two hoses on the TB going to different places. get the one closest to the front of the car(HOSE #1), and disconnect it from the TB (should leak fluid, if it doesn't...

turbo manifold $$$?
okay, i'm tired of looking, and can now agree that no one makes turbo manifolds for the 1.6 sohc (except racing mazda). Does anyone know how much I should expect to pay to have one custom built? Is there ANY car out there that has a manifold that would interchange???( sorry i had to ask)
thanks
thanks

Re: swapped MAFS with RX-7 need help
I had to tune mine to work (open it and adjust the spring tension) there was a post on this where the guy explained it in more detail. try clearing out the memory, i beleive the car runs off the ecu's memory when the car is "below operating temperrature". clearing it out may allow it to re...

Would a moderator please consider moving this to the FAQ section? It is the best general I4 engine data around, and I think it deserves a spot in the 4-cyl FAQ section.
