More people have had the swap go smoothly than not. As far as being worth it- it gave me a 40 hp bump over my SOHC for $1500. It could be done for far less if you already have a manual tranny. No you dont need to use the protege tranny. All of the people having problems- most of them didnt plan ver...

I'm surprised that question actually had to be asked :P yea I had to ask that question because I knew the hose wasn't the problem..... turns out that the vacuum port on the engine where the hose connects was clogged.... tried to clean it with a cotton swap when i noticed it would only go in about a...

no brakes after BP swap

hi, I just swaped out my old engine for a BP, and now I have no power brakes. I did have trouble putting in the vacuum line that goes to the brakes on the side of the engine, and the hose cracked a bit, but i pushed it far back enough that it shouldn't affect it TOO much.... I know it has a check va...

well let me answer my own question, since not many people really know the truth.... i searched in the protege forum, and YES the SOHC ecu will work on the BP engine. Guys with the 1.8 SOHC have done it, and there was a guy w/ a 1.6 SOHC mx-3 who did it too. The engine will run fine, w/out stumbling ...

SOHC ecu on BP??

I'm getting ready to do my BP swap, and haven't been able to find an ECU locally at a good price.... Someone told me that one of the main problems w/ using the SOHC ecu would be the Fuel Injectors not working the right way..... . If I used my old injector harness, and adapted them to fit the BP, cou...

Chaning Timing belt on BP

Okay I'm hoping a lot of people are up tonight, because I just bought a BP from a local junkyard ($300) The engine looks to be in good condition, no oil on outside of engine, and inside of valve cover looks a light golden color... Anyways, while I have the engine out of the car, I decided it would b...

The question I have is 1- If i use the BP from a Ford, will the pasenger side engine mount from my car work, or will I have...

i have a 93 SOHC and i'm using the tranny off of a 95 DOHC, so yes it should be no problem. He will have to use his speedo gear (i'm not sure if the Automatic and Manual have the same one though, but they should). That was the only difference i remembered, because the 94 + uses the electric speedome...
