on DOHC, thermostat is located behind the distributor. Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the thermostat housing on the engine, on the airbox side.

If you've replaced the battery, and it keeps getting drained, then the alternator must not be charging it. When running, it's using up the battery, keep it up and you'll need a new battery, again.

Check belt tension, both belts, while you're there. Check their condition as it sounds like they may need replacing. A manual will tell you everything you need to know, good luck!!
