Problem with starting car in first gear

I always park my car in first gear with the parking brake on. Lately, when I've started the car by pressing the clutch and brake while in first gear, the engine will start and abrubtly begin to vibrate badly and then cuts out and stalls.

This only happens when the engine is cold; if I make ...

Re: battery question

When I say I want to drill the nut out I mean I want to drill through the nut and bolt and destroy them, not simply drill it out like normal; like I said before, the nut is basically welded on and I've tried coke and all that already.

Re: battery question

Can someone tell me if it would be possible to just drill the stuck nut out?

Re: battery question

I've already purchased the terminal replacement, the only thing is that the cable clamp is still bolted onto the piece of the old terminal that came apart. The only problem is that the bolt on this piece is basically welded shut from the sulfate residue and wont come off. Can't get a steady grip of ...

battery question

My battery is old and was developing a sulfate residue on both terminals until it finally corroded through the positive terminal and disconnected the battery.

Here's my question: what would happen if I joined the broken off piece attached to one of the cable clamp and the terminal on the battery ...

Re: Trouble with thermostat?

How can I make sure that the thermostat is faulty and that the engine is not actually overheating and the thermostat is simply reacting?

Would the temp gauge stay near the H if this was the case? I'm sorry about the stupid questions, I'm a newbie when it comes to car trouble.

Re: Trouble with thermostat?

I forgot to mention this, but the thermostat I have currently is only 2 years old; I had it replaced when I broke a belt and pulley and my car overheated that one single time.

Should a thermostat last more than 2 years (less than 15,000 miles in those two years)? If so, what could prematurely ...

Trouble with thermostat?

My mx-3 has never had problems with overheating and during the four years I've owned it the engine temp. gauge has always remained in the same exact place and the needle has never budged from the middle of the indicator between C and H.

Now when I drive it, at any random time regardless of trip ...

Re: intake question

So if it doesn't have its own filter isn't it pulling in unfiltered air? Why do people insist on covering it up and what would the difference be besides the noise if I took it off?

Sorry if I am asking too many questions but I don't get what you're trying to say.

Re: intake question

Does the resonator have its own filter? I didn't check when I took off my air intake hose to patch it up but I was under the impression that the resonator is just a hollow tube with nothing inside.

If it is hollow then how will taking it off pull in unfiltered air into the engine?

intake question

I have a 1993 1.8L V6 GS and I was wondering what function the J-shaped plastic piece on the intake hose serves. It is the section that breaks off to one side after the accordian shaped piece and has a J- shaped funnel that reaches down about 10 inches and simply hangs there.

What function does ...

Re: Cracked intake hose

Has anyone ever used electrical tape to seal it temporarily? Would the tape melt and damage anything?

Cracked intake hose

My air intake hose has a 3 inch horizontal crack along one of the ribs. The part I am reffering to is the ribbed, Y-shaped hose.

This is a dealer part right? Well, I just called my local dealer and they want $61 for it. This sounds like a rip off to me. Does anyone have any alternatives to buying ...

How much does it typically cost to adjust a clutch plate? What is actually done to the clutch? Can someone please explain this.

Re: Clutch problems?

Thanks for the replies guys. By the way, I forgot to mention that in no way has my clutch pedal shown any difference than from before I've had this problem. It doen't make any noise and it bounces right back when depressed. Does this help?
If my clutch were slipping or needed readjusting would I ...
