That happened in my mx minus the air con and it turned out the sunroof drain pipe was draining into the car. My best advise is take out teh carpet and look for a loose tube/pipe.

Nice find. I have a 93 se as well but mines raspberry metallic. Had it for 4 years now and this is my 3rd mx-3. Def fun nice cars and yeah the black is super rare.

Is this a serious prob, ie. is the engine done for? Also if u dont have a catalytic converter will the smoke be more obvious?

I have driven both cars. The rx-7 tt by far was faster and had better handling, not to mention its a true sports car. However u will have to dump lots of money into the rx-7. If money is no object get an rx-7.

my old mx-3 was supposed to have been totalled. I saw it parked. looks like some kid had bought it and rebuilt it. had over 300,000km. I was considering buying it back but then i didnt bother.

Also check, there is a rubber tube that drains water to the outside via the fender. Make sure the tube in in tact and not torn. IIRC the tube runs down the brace u r talking about.
