Re: final drive..
Actually if you look at Mazda's OE specs over the years you will find that Models such as the (BG) Protege had a F5MR with 3.62 final drive ratio behind the 108hp B8-ME. I used on of these with a (8V) B6 SOHC for a few years with less wear and tear on the engine due to lower engine speeds. Also 3.85...

Re: B5 engines
Swapping the B5-ZE in place of the original B6 is pretty much plug and play since they are identical engines externally. How every you would want only a '97-'98 B5-ZE from a AZ-3 or Presso the earlier one and the ones is in the 323 and Lantis were lower HP. I do know of a couple B5-ZE swaps and they...

Re: What's your speed @ 4K rpm?
I'm still around but seldomly log on in the past year or so. For what ever reason I don't get the pop-up window notifying me for a PM on my primary computer so I may only notice that there is a PM several months later when I am on another computer. I just recently discovered that the 0.6X 5th gear r...

Re: What's your speed @ 4K rpm?
With a stock tranny I was doing about 120kph@4000
with 4:11 approx 140kph@4000 (swapped 06/1997 with engine)
with 0.69 5gear swap almost 160kph@4000 (swapped in 1998)
BTW My cars been off the road and in storage since 2001 with a blown tranny.

Re: zx2 internals
It depend more on the model year of the ZX-2. The MTX in the '98 had different gear ratios from all other production model years. Trannys build after 2/2002 got the same beefed up internals as the Protege, Tribute and other Mazda models still using the G series trannies. I would also agree that havi...

Re: Crank pulley failure
Seem to be happening a lot especially in place where they use road salt of near large bodies of salt water. Seems that the pulley rusts under the rubber isolator and seperates. I had a collection of a 1/2 dozen or so spare pulleys but have given all but one of them away to guys that have had them se...

Re: Change only the fifth gear.
You will need both gears from the MX6/626, I have also found out that you can use ones from a 98 or newer Escort ZX2. I did a write up on changing the gears in my F-series transmission, hope it helps: http://mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=65282" onclick="window.open(this.href);r...

Re: sway bar dimensions
Yes a '96 MX-3 GS or any V-6 presso or AZ-3. At one time a friends spring mfgr company in Calgary, AB would make 22mm, 23mm or 24mm rear bars really cheap but with the boom in the oil industry they don't have time to waste on automotive products anymore. Are there any other cars that have 22mm (or b...

Re: 5th Gear Missing! 92 1.8L GS
5th gear is a common problem with the Mazda MTX tranny in the 90's. Mazda and Ford in the US used ATF in the MTX even thought their specs say to only use ATF only below 0deg C. You mentioned that it was low on fluid. If it has been that way for awhile this usually means that the 5th gear syncro in t...

When you use tuner lugs like that make sure you clean your lugs and maybe put some anti-size on them. The end of those lugs is open so water can get in there and cause rusting and can make it hard to get off. I also recomend torqing them and checking the specs on it once in awhile. Its a known prob...

The other thing about welding S.Steel is that it really needs to be back purged to be done 100% correctly. Most muffler shops use 316 filler which is normally used to join stainless and non-stainless steels together which is one reason why you see rust form at the welds. Without back purging the wel...

I wonder if wise-old Yoda can help us out on this one... The 2.5L KL diesel as far as I can tell was only used in a limited numbers of small S.E. asian countries and only in a RWD configuration for use in small mazda commercial truck (not the B series) As I have more recently found that it is actua...

I just took out the 3rd tranny in a year all were jspec lsd trannies. I'm getting sick of it and its expensive. Are you you trying to do burn out? Do you getting a lot of wheel spin? Is the diameter of one tire slightly larger than the other? If yes to any or all of these question, these are all ma...
