Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
don't know yet. Only have driven it for about 1.5 hrs total. Unfortunately I had to leave it while I am away for work for a few months. Will have to wait until I get back around May to try it out. I will put another post up here once I check the 1.4 mile time. I have a G-tec meter that I will test ...

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
Here's a message from the past for you guys.
Well I finally got around to weighing the KL-ZE. The weight of the complete engine with exhaust up to the cat, as seen below, weighs.....
wait for it....
176kg or 388lbs. 10kg or 22lbs of that was the flywheel.
The engine was weighed using a ...

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
Well I finally found a good cheap Jap MX6 half cut, which I have purchased. It will be a little while before I get the engine out by itself, but when I do I will tell you guys how much it weighs.
I am keeping a diary of the transplant too.
<A HREF="http://offroadvw.net/bajawes/linktoV6.htm ...

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
The majority of the guys on the probetalk forum seem to think it is about 250lbs. A few guys there have lifted it no probs, and even put it in the hatch of their probe. One guy has a shipping order receipt that says 250lbs.
If I go ahead and buy one, I will weigh it and we'll all know once and ...

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
ok, so you and a friend can only hold it for a second or two. Unless your huge, I don't think it'd be any more than 300lbs.
A beetle engine is 205lbs, and me and a friend can hold it for a minute, but you'll be pretty sore afterwards. A type 4 vw engine is 250lbs, and we can only hold it for a ...

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
I spoken to two jap engine importers. One says 265lbs just the engine, and the other says 365lbs engine and gearbox. I think they are both guessing.

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
David, you link to pictures doesn't seem to work.
I am legally limited to 2.5L as the biggest engine I can put in my car.
So a 60's 3.5L v8 weighs 340lbs, but a recent technology designed to be lightweight 2.5L v6 weighs 380lbs? It just seems a bit heavy. What accessories does that include on ...

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
horizontally split, not vertically split.
I found a good page for old car engine weights. http://www.aviator.cc/weights2.txt
It says old chev and buick engines are 350lb. A rover 3.5 V8 is 318lb. Surely the mazda engine is less than ...

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
I looked at some of the links, they are very good, thanks a lot. I am still after the weight though. The link emphasises light-weight, but never says what it is.
Oh, and I figured out it is an alloy block. Center split crank case like a vw?

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
how sure are you about that weight? My vw engine is only 210lbs. Does the mazda engine have a cast iron block or something?
My engine and gearbox would be less than 380lbs.

Please help - need KL-ZE info
Please help me with info, I am desperate.
I own a pretty wild vw (see my website). It currently has a reasonably powerful engine, and goes well (low 16's 1/4 mile). The only thing is I want air/con, and heating. To adapt both to the current engine would be quite difficult, and it would be somewhat ...
