Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project
I would advise that you start with the T28 instead of the T25 you mentioned, you will quickly realize what I am talking about regarding the turbo too small when it runs out of power well before redline. I am speaking from experience having started my setup with a VJ-14 off the 323 GTX, please start ...

Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project
I have seen some people cut off the studs off the existing GTX manifold and then weld the adapter plate directly onto the bottom, however I think you need a good welder to ensure that this is done properly.

Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project
The IHI-VJ11 is a fairly common turbo though so I shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement at a local junkyard or on Ebay, they came on the 89-92 Mazda MX-6 and Ford Probe. If you are going to a new manifold, I would recommend that you go to the T28 turbo directly instead of the T25 which is a sm...

Re: B6 SOHC going turbo, need advice
I dont think it even makes sense to turbo the 1.6 SOHC engine considering that it makes about 88hp standard, you are better off looking for a BP engine and run it N/A or turbo that engine. BP starts at around 132hp and is 1800cc. When you look at the money that you will spend to turbo the SOHC prope...

Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project
I agree with the points that you guys have made, that is why I am interested in how well the AEM FIC works on his setup so that I can consider it instead of going standalone.

Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project
Let me know how it goes with the AEM FIC since I never had good luck with piggybacks, had in the S-AFC 2 at one point and it never worked well for me. A standalone is always preferred for NA to turbo applications if you can afford it and I may look to go down that road.

Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project > IC & Boost pipes test
RobMinhas, I dont want to hijack the post but I never really kept a worklog since the car was worked on over a period of years on and off and by different mechanics, most of the mods are listed in my signature, it started off as a very low boost setup on a bone stock engine but is now running a buil...

Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project > IC & Boost pipes test
Good luck with the setup, the biggest problem you will face is that power is addictive, I started out thinking I would be happy with just 5-7psi with the small VJ-14 and now at 14+ psi with the T-Bird turbo, I am still looking for more. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project > IC & Boost pipes test
You could probably hit 170 with the IHI VJ-11 but you would have to ditch that oem downpipe and also run at least a 2.5" exhaust and run around 10-12psi. The only concern that you have to worry about is damaging pistons so you have to ensure that ignition timing and fueling are correct.

What are your goals power wise for the car from the turbo project?

Re: Sam's 1.6 MX-3- LT Turbo project > IC & Boost pipes test
This project is looking great, question what turbo are you running there? The IHI-VJ14 that came with the 323 GTX 1600cc? If so I would advise against it, that turbo is way too small. I started my project with the IHI VJ-14 which spooled quick but run out of breath really quickly, then moved to the ...
