Re: Transmisison match question

You need to do some reading. All of these questions have been answered many many times. All K series engines use the same block casting, same mounts etc. You dont' have to reinforce the mounts for a 70hp increase. If you're swapping in a DE I would swap in the DE's stock ECU, distributor and air fl...

Re: Transmisison match question

There are a few more details when swapping in a DE than a ZE, and I'm not totally familiar with them all, but as long as all the electronic parts that control the engine are speaking the same language it will run. Like what details ? I guess I will swap sensors + ignition from my k8, so it should r...

Re: Transmisison match question

The engine is a mechanical device. Things turn, valves open and close...yada yada yada. The engine is neither OBD1 nor OBD2...it's a hunk of steel. The ECU, sensors, distributor etc. that control it are either OBD1 or 2. So if you take a DE from a probe and put your OBD1 distributor and sensors on ...

Re: Transmisison match question

The engine doesn't care if it's OBD2 or OBD1. It's the sensors that are the problem. The KF needs a KF ECU that's why you would have to change the wire harness. Any KL will drop right in with your stock MX-3 VAF and distributor and an OBD1 KL ECU. So even if engine was in 95' probe, with obd2 ,I co...

Re: Transmisison match question

The more I search, the more ''do KL swap'' i get. But still, if I get KL, it will have OBD2 wiring, so wiring part won't drop out.
But I doubt the standart MX transmission will handle all KL torque well (as well as rest of suspension).

Transmisison match question

The thing is, my old engine (1.8v6) just died (started ticking noise above 1500rpm and ticking/clunking noise got worse when going for higher rpm). When took it apart(removed valve cover and oil pan, found a lot of metallic dust (bronze and aliminium). Took the car to mechanic, he said that rocker a...

Re: Starter or starter relay problem?

As it turned out, it was bad ground wire in the first place (it was cracked in half somewhere).
And there is some wierd noise when they cranked it up on a test stend, but I will figure that out later.
Overall cost for taking it off/disassembling/putting back and repairing that wire was ~10$.

Re: Starter or starter relay problem?

No, in long term you buy new starter brushes. Maybe a new rotor too, depending on the wear of yours. Lathing it is an option if its not worn out. Or, if you're a normal person, a new starter. Just towed it to service, got sick of trying anything and coming up with no results. I think there might be...

Re: Starter or starter relay problem?

Ryan wrote:No, I'm really not. If the starter solenoid fires, this will more than likely work. Just a tappity tap tap, not beat the s--- out of it. Even a big screwdriver or wrench would do it.
Will this work in long term, or I'll have to hit that starter every time? :confused2:

Re: Starter or starter relay problem?

IF THE SOLENOID FIRES - Try tapping the starter motor itself with a hammer or something with they key in the crank position. If your brushes are super low it may need a nudge just to get the motion to start it up. My red... er, grey car is like this. ^DO THIS! . I'm sorry, but is it normal to hit s...

Re: Starter or starter relay problem?

sometimes the clutch switch is funky, so if it doesn't start, you can pump the clutch and turn the key till it starts. I disassembled the clutch switch and it's a spring loaded doohickey that wears out, and doesn't connect all the way. Otherwise you can always run a ground direct from the starter t...

Re: Starter or starter relay problem?

No such thing as a starter relay, the shuttle solenoid that pushes the starter gear into the ring gear is the relay. Check your battery terminals, that is the first place to start. take them off, and put them back on. Wire brush the mess if you have one. Do you have an immobilizer? As I said- batte...

Starter or starter relay problem?

Hello again, I'm back with more problems and surprises from my car :crying: . Car- mazda mx-3, engine 1.8v6. The thing is- when I turn the ignition key, nothing happens. All the dash lights just go out(like there is no juice). Starter is not kicking in, instead there is some wierd clicking noise som...

Re: The "Quick Question" Thread

Been there, done that. Nothing changed. My coolant is still leaking somewhere(I think I found where, will specify today). Thanks for writing down a list with those sensors, but could you please show those sensors on picture(edit the picture with paint,by adding circles e.t.c?). Was trying to get some...
