Just to update and close this off. It turned out to be a large split in the air intake duct. Has been taped up for now and runs lovely again. Thanks for the advice

Thanks for your responses. I'll check out the air intake etc and see if there is anything wrong there. When I get to the bottom of it I'll let you know as it could help someone else.
