Re: Escort GT and Protege distributor WILL work in an MX3 RS

There is no module in the distributer I have. Mine looks like the one in your picture. They have 2 position sensors but that's it. One is 4 pulses per rev of the cam and the other is a single homing pulse for tdc. Both signals go to the ECU and the ECU sends a signal to the ignitor bassed off it's t...

Re: B6 turbo complete engine/trans $400.

I have another manifold and vj-11 turbo. Boost was later around ~2500rpm. Make an offer.

The distributer mod isn't on the original 1.6L engine in the pics. That's the stock distributer.

Re: Escort GT and Protege distributor WILL work in an MX3 RS

4gotn - The wires from the distributor do not go into any module. Of the 4, 2 are power and ground and the other 2 are the 2 cas signals to the ECU. The coil is the transformer that steps 12v to 25-50kv. The ignitor is the low side switch (transistor) that charges the primary side winding. It conduc...

Re: Escort GT and Protege distributor WILL work in an MX3 RS

If you find this usefull and it saved you $100s on a distributer, pm me for my paypal address. I was the one who came up with the coil-over-plug conversion for the Miata using Toyota coils. Unfortunatly I don't have an easy solution to do COP on the MX-3. There is only one trigger signal from ...

Re: Escort GT and Protege distributor WILL work in an MX3 RS

I hope this pic turns out. I have both schematics in my hands and drew this up for you guys the same way it is in my car. I'm sorry I don't have the info on which BP cas wires goes to which B6 cas wires. I already taped up my harness. If it doesn't work, swap them as noted. Some colors match up. Som...

Re: Speed sensor... Which one do I need? Distributor... holes??

So there is no Mazda on the planet that used a G-series trans and electric speedo?? I did find a sensor to work but I have to mount it turned to the right and made a clip to hold it in. Apperently the shaft of the sensor isn't in the middle. If I try to rotate it to line up the holes, I can feel the...

Re: Quick BP cam/piston question

I measured the lobes and the Escort Gt and Miata cams are the same lift anyways. I can't measure duration or timing of them. I'll assume they are the same. 05/06 on both sets. The Protege cams I have are also the same numbers.

Re: Escort GT and Protege distributor WILL work in an MX3 RS

I printed the escort's and mx3s wiring diagrams and just matched signal for signal. I used the escort ignitor and coil as well as the small filter capacitor mounted under one of the coil bracket bolts. What I did was wire up the escort side of things first. This will have 4 wires total that run from...

Re: Escort GT and Protege distributor WILL work in an MX3 RS

I have a dohc '94 1.6 and the distributor I used is from a '92 escort 1.8. It took rewiring to make it work. Every BP I saw in the yard had the same distributor I used.

Quick BP cam/piston question

The motor I bought for my BP swap was from a '92 Escort GT automatic. What might be different in that motor compaired to a '91 Protege manual? Are the pistons lower compression? Different cams? I looked in Mitchel on-demand and couldn't find cam specs. I went back to the yard today and popped the co...

[FS] B6 turbo, Complete engine/trans $400.

I'm selling my engine because I did a BP swap. wg is 9psi. VJ-14 turbo. Spooled pretty quick. Engine has 112k on it and was taken care of. Comes with trans but it probably needs a new clutch. It started slipping under boost. It's the engine in this pic. Yes it comes with the spiffy stainless shield....
