Re: Lazzer's MX3 "novelty turbo" build thread

I also tossed in some Probe injectors to fatten up the a/f but other then that it has no engine management, yet. The hood then gets a scoop but I haven't cut the hole yet. I'm still considering a water to air IC. When the boost comes on it'll spin 1st and 2nd. It wouldn't do that on it's own. 3rd 4...

Re: B6 Turbo Manifold

My small block comparison was a poor analogy. Anyways. There's no replacement for displacement except for more boost! How did you have small Miata rods if you had a B6T? What happened to the B6T rods? Keep that short nose tight! I haven't seen a high volume oil pump yet. Only thing I've se...

Lazzer's MX3 "novelty turbo" build thread

This is just a daily driver that I decided to boost for the hell of it. I started off with a GTX mani off ebay and a VJ-11 off of a Prove or MX6 or something like that. I used a Probe outlet housing and bought a Probe downpipe from Napa and shortened it to fit. I also tossed in some Probe injectors ...

Re: B6 Turbo Manifold

The problem trying to make 400fwhp, besides getting it to the ground, is the rods, pistons, poor head flow (for 400hp), sintered oil pump gears, the shortnose crank issue with early B6s, and a weak distributer-bassed ignition system. Mazda's are good motors no doubt but lets be realistic. A 400hp B6...

Re: B6 Turbo Manifold

How about the skirt on the oil pan and also the bellhousing side of the engine is cast differently. It's a weaker block with a weaker crank. The one in the MX-3 (second gen) is a B6D. The first gen MX-3 is a B6ME (B62E). B6D and B6ME both lack the squirters as far as I know. B6ZE has them. The B6 us...

Re: B6 Turbo Manifold

There are different versions of the B6. The B6T is fine. The B6 used in the MX-3 is a pos. The BP is great in any version. The only changes may be rods and cr. It's like compairing a smallblock 305 to 350. You will never win an argument that a 305 is better.

Re: B6 Turbo Manifold

JW I don't put that kinda $$ into fwd cars. ;)

The 1.6 B6 is a pos compaired to the 1.8 BPT or even a BP period. When my 5 is done it's old BP(t) will go into the 3.

Anyone have a boost timing controller forsale cheap?

Re: B6 Turbo Manifold

That was used in the mx3 in 91 92 right? Easiest way to find out if it'll bolt up is to have an auto store pull the manifold gaskets for the motor you want to put it on and the motor the manifold came from then compair. When I used a B6T manifold on my B6D, the wastegate actuator of the vj-11 hit th...

Re: Miata Swap..?

I wouldn't bother. For the time effort and money it takes to make another 25hp you could boost it. I did my mx-3 (1.6) for $230 for 5.5lbs (no intercooler yet) and my Miata (1.8) for $250 for 12lbs (intercooled).

Re: Miata Swap..?

From what I read the Miata cams are pretty good. There's always room for improvement on anything but lets just say they got them pretty close to optimal imo. Any gains are minimal and 1/2lb more boost makes up for it. As far as the hacking cams. All your doing is cutting the crank angle sensor drive...

Re: Stock 94 1.6 DOHC...slowww

Depending on your build the Miata heads are fairly tough. If you want to run high rpm and/or cams you should at least get single coil Supertech valvesprings. The valves handle them fine from what I'm told. The '99-00 Miata heads flow better and the '01+ is the same design with added vvt. Unshroud th...

Re: Miata Swap..?

You need 2 exhaust cams. one in the exhaust. one in the intake.

Re: Miata Swap..?

can you explain a little further? About the cams? From another thread... "pre exhintake cam 117WHP 112FT. LBS" "afterwords it was 128WHP 116FT. LBS" You use an exhaust cam and put it in the intake side. When you try to you'll notice it won't fit because of the cas drive on the b...
