Look for a stroker kit for the 1st gen miata with the 1.6L

They were more popular a few years ago, but the older miatas either have them, or have been junked, so no demand = no supply.

I had a similar problem with the timing belt rubbing on the timing cover, and it managed to destroy all three covers before I got the idler pulley and tensioner pulley replaced.
