Re: 5th gear compatability

I saw a writeup about swapping 5th gear and installing a LSD into the 5-speed transmission, but I can't seem to locate it right now. If I do, I'll put it up here also. Basically you'll need to drop the transmission, take the rear cover off to expose 5th gear and remove it, then install the replaceme...

Re: 5th gear compatability

I think the Protege transmission will work, but the bell housing is different. I'll find out this week or so if the bell housing from the MX-3 transmission will bolt onto the Protege one, and let you know. If so that may save you some money. Otherwise, if you want, I can have the shop pull the 5th g...

Re: ~$50 Ebay underdrive pulleys OK?

if you're trying to put a underdrive pulley on the accessories, you will need a larger pulley not a smaller one. This will allow the accessories to turn at a slower rate than with the OE pulley. A smaller pulley on the crankshaft turns the belt at a slower rate than the OE pulley. I know it sounds a...

What color spoiler are you looking for? There are a couple in a scrap yard near me, and I think they're both white. I can get a price for you later this week if you want.

Re: 4-cyl transmission compatability question

So, I took a little trip to the salvage yard at lunch, and the F5M-R transmission from a '91 protege 1.8L SOHC will not bolt up directly to the 1.6L DOHC MX-3 engine. However, it looks like I can swap the bell housing from my F25M-R transmission to the F5M-R and it should fit perfectly. If that does...

Re: 4-cyl transmission compatability question

Hey,
I just replied to your post. I have a '95RS, so I have the DOHC. I honestly don't know if the bolt pattern is the same as the SOHC. I believe the bottom end of our engines is the same, so that makes me think they use the same transmission.

Re: 5th gear compatability

No offense Kiwimx3, but the OP has a 4-cyl which means he has the F-series transmission, not the G-series. MX_Sid, I'm in the process of replacing my transmission also, and am looking at one from a '91 protege 1.8L SOHC. I've read that the B8 engine uses the F-series tranny like our B6 does, so I'm ...

Re: 4-cyl transmission compatability question

OK, so I found GroHarlem's guide to engine swaps and it had some great info about the different transmissions (Thanks Gro!). Then I went to a protege transmission info website I found and got some more info on gear ratios and other things. Then I called around and found a salvage yard that has both ...

Re: does anyone know how to do this?

I don't have any idea how to get your car to always run like it does when it first starts, but I expect initially your choke is on, then the ECU turns it off and that's when you start running lean.
Electronic choke ftw.

4-cyl transmission compatability question

It looks like I'll be replacing, or rebuilding, my transmission soon and I have a couple of questions. Can I replace my F-series with either an F5M-R from a '90-'92 protege (B8-ME engine), or an F25M-R from a '92-'94 protege (B8-ME engine)? I want the 3.619 final drive ratio instead of the 4.105 tha...

You sure that 67,000 is miles and not gallons of rust enhancer dumped in the engine bay?

Nice deal, but you have some work to do there! Good luck and have fun!

Re: can a circuit board be repaired? help please :(

You can totally repair it. Just scrape off a little of the coating on each side of the break, and solder a small jumper across it with insulated wire. It's always best to 'tin' the solder points before you connect the wires, that way all you have to do is heat the solder just enough to melt it, and ...

places that have scales that 'can' weigh cars (that I can remember right off hand). Grain elevators - they weigh farmer's crops Landscaping Supply - they weigh trucks full of rock for driveways and such Garbage Dumps - they weigh all kinds of stuff Truck Stops - they weigh 18 wheelers (not all have ...
