Re: Vaccum leak?
I found my problem, the throttle cable was out of adjustment. It was allowing too much slack, and it didn't have enough tension against the butterfly, assuming that meant the IAC couldn't keep up with changes of air flow that quick. Car is ready to travel the world now haha. thanks all.

Re: Scared Teenager -- First car -- PLEASE HELP
Yes, check codes, which with the help of a Chilton's book is easy as pie. Also to aid you in your "scared Teenager" with 85k on the clock you probably should check the timing belt too.. which with the help of your chilton is also easy as pie.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Vaccum leak?
Cool thanks, I know the PVC is clean.. I have cleaned that, cleaned the IAC.. checked the MAF.. it is while brakeing.. which lead me long ago to the Alt.. It's fine. I dunno... I am leaning towards the brake system, it works fine yet there must be something with that vaccum.. somehow. It's a mystery ...

Vaccum leak?
It's a manual.. 88hp of doom. Is there a common vaccum leak area on these cars? Sometimes and only somtimes while at a stop , with the brake applied the car will idle down, almost die, or die.. let off of the brake and it will go back to normal. I am only to assume that there is a vaccum leak, a ...

Re: Fuel Consumption on the 4 cyl
Our little 1992 SOHC that my wife drives to work, 12 miles one way lots of hills.. she managed 35.4pmg last tank. She usually averages 32mpg at the posted 65mph speed limit. She decided to put the clutch down going down hills and ease up to speed this last tank and managed the 35.4. She says she is ...

Re: Hunting deamons.. from under the hoooodd.
THANK YOU ALL. :)
It was the next to last connection in the tank at the fuel pump assembly. It was a crispy critter inside, the female connector had gotten hot enough to spread away from the male prong. So a little cleaning, and some squeazing and walla.. a running fuel mizer again!
Thank you all ...

Re: Hunting deamons.. from under the hoooodd.
The checking the lead was the next step for me, I checked it at the seat but not beyond that.. it seems to be the only logical option left.
I hope haha. Thanks for all of you all's input. I'll let you all know soon.

Re: Hunting deamons.. from under the hoooodd.
Well I did the F/P to ground.. I could hear the relay click, inside the car... but no fuel. I suppose now I need to check the leads at the fuel pump? Perhaps something has happend to the wiring?

Re: Hunting deamons.. from under the hoooodd.
I taught my wife in my old Explorer Sport 5 speed manual. Then she bought a Mazda3 manual... now she won't have anything but a manual she loves it. She likes the control.

She does tell stories of looking like a crazy woman because she can't take off slow.
Thanks.
I'll replace those relays or at least check them and do the CEL test wenst I get a chance.

Re: Hunting deamons.. from under the hoooodd.
Duh check engine light!! lol Not enough coffee this morning. That was my next step though to check the relay.. just seems logical.. thing has 163k on it, probably time. How are the fuel pumps on these cars longevity wise? SHould I just leave the new one in at 163k or put the old one back and get my ...

Re: Hunting deamons.. from under the hoooodd.
I am sorry I am not familiar with the CEL term.. But I will do that! thanks. I did pull the fuel line off of the fire wall filter and nothing came out, that is why I replaced the fuel pump, put the new fuel pump in and just put it back together to see if it would start.

Re: Hunting deamons.. from under the hoooodd.
No check engine light, and I dont' have a code reader.. Perhaps I can get one.
Checked all spark, and it does have spark at all plugs.
I did put a new fuel pump in it and that didn't change anything.
Sort-of at a loss really.
P.S. High five on owning a Mazdaspeed6.. I love mine!
