I have a '95 1.6 DOHC

passed finally. but my car still lopes. which means it's still misfiring. which means it's not combusting thoroughly. which means this new cat won't last until my next e-test.

ok, i'll replace the cat. hope this fixes both my problems.

your point was taken. its just that i was betting/hoping it wasn't the cat.

so, a '95 RS in the US is OBD-II? i thought it was OBD-I
my engine isn't listed here under pre-96 OBD-II cars.

i read about this a lot in the forum.

"tiny cracks" on the intake hose can cause vacuum leaks.

but just how tiny can they be?

my intake hose has tiny cracks all over the goose neck, but they don't go through all the way in, they're only on the surface. should i consider that a source of a vacuum ...

at cold starts in the morning, it idles fine. as it warms up, the loping begins and the car shakes.

the car accelerates smoothly. once it's in motion, there seem to be no issues.
except for the gas smell from time to time.

but once it comes to a stop, the loping returns. the muffler sputters too ...

We did a standard tune up and of course it still loped, but we also replaced the intake... I gave him my old intake equipment. Seemed to work wonders...

You might inspect the car for any vacuum leaks that might hinder your idle.
