no you dont need to start it - on is correct to retrieve codes
make sure you have a CEL (european/japan often dont) - so you use and led on fen and b+
if you're obd2 get the right reader as in the other post like this

I'm not 100% but Ksport and AST seem to be the other options for proper coilovers, which I beleive are from Europe! There's the koni insert with coilover sleeve option too.

do you have a CEL? Uk cars don't have them, I have to use a 12v LED between fen and b+ and also short the ten and gnd.
