Do the BP swap, but take it step by step. First worry about swapping the engine in before you try for crazy horse power. You will need the BP wire harness and get rid of the entire DOHC OBD II harness( because the BP is OBD I). Get both the BP wire diagrams (90-94 protege LX) and the MX wire diagram...

The B8 and BP both have the same block and internals. Just have different heads.

Just look on the front of the engine block ( exhaust side, by the freeze plug)
and look for the casting that says BP and you will be on your way.

Anything above 160 and within a 20% tolerance is good. The BP engines compression ratio is 9 to 1 and the BPT is 8.2 to 1. Try doing a wet test the next time you check the compression.

Unplug it and adjust idle and be done with it. Warm up car and turn on all accessories plus have someone apply brakes and clutch then adjust idle. It might be alittle high at stops but mine sits right around 1000. No more up and down idle.
