I might not be a cheap solution as its carbon.

Surprised the cork gasket is still sold in stead of regular gasket sealer.

The sending unit is in the gas tank, accessible under the rear seat. It looks like this:

That's for a 323, but nearly identical. That black square box is your floater.

It's indeed connected between the front and rear valve cover.

Front blows, rear sucks.
The other end of the T normally leads to the airfilter box/hose.

Not sure why it needs to be connected to the airfilter side.
