(Scarborough, Ont.)--The 1996 Mazda MX-3 Precidia is a stylish and nimble, front engine/front drive sporty hatchback that offers consumers a choice
of either a 1.6 litre, four-cylinder engine or a smooth 1.8 litre, V6 engine. When introduced as a 1992 model, the stylish MX-3 Precidia was named
"Best New Sporty Car" by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. It has since become one of the best selling sporty coupes in Canada.
The 1996 MX-3 Precidia RS sports a 1.6 litre, DOHC, 16-valve, four-cylinder engine. This engine has a horsepower rating of 105 at 6200 rpm, while
the torque rating is 100 ft.lb. at 3600 rpm. Excellent fuel economy is achieved with the peppy MX-3 Precidia RS which boasts a very good 8.1
litres/100 km city and 5.8 litres/100 km highway (5-speed manual transmission).
Mazda's unique 1.8 litre, DOHC, 24-valve, multi-port electronically fuel injected V6 is the standard powerplant for the 1996 MX-3 Precidia GS. This is
one of the smallest displacement V6 engines in mass production today. It offers an exceptionally smooth ride while developing a maximum 128
horsepower at 6500 rpm and 115 ft.lb of torque at 4500 rpm.
Both MX-3 Precidia trim levels come equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. A 4-speed electronically controlled automatic
transmission, with overdrive and lockup torque converter is available as an option.
The MX-3 Precidia's front suspension is a strut-type with coil springs and stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is an independent, strut-type with coil
springs, Twin Trapezoidal Links with stabilizer bar and lateral reinforcement rod. Steering is rack-and-pinion with engine-rpm-sensing variable power
assist. Brakes are power assisted ventilated front discs in front, with rear drums on the RS and rear discs on the GS.
The 1996 MX-3 Precidia comes with many standard features that complement its stylish, sporty design. Among the items are: 5-speed manual
transmission; body-colour bumpers and door handles; dual body-colour power door mirrors; tinted glass; rear window wiper/washer; tachometer; tilt
steering intermittent wipers; fold-down rear seat and AM/FM auto-reverse cassette stereo with 4-speakers and retractable antenna.
Additional standard features on the 1996 MX-3 Precidia GS include: 15-inch aluminum alloy wheels; 205/55VR 15 all-season steel belted radial tires;
front and rear spoiler; cruise control and dual tailpipes. The Power Group option package includes power windows, power door locks, and power
operated sunroof. Dual driver and passenger airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) are also available as options on the MX-3 Precidia GS.
Six colours are available on the 1996 MX-3 Precidia: Blaze Red; Brilliant Black; Creek Blue; Silver Stone; Chaste White and Sparkle Green.
Mazda's comprehensive warranty covers the 1996 MX-3 Precidia for 3 years and 80,000 km. Additional warranties cover powertrain components for
a period of 5 years and 100,000 km, body sheet metal perforation for 5 years and unlimited mileage, and selected emission control components for 8
years or 128,000 km.
