Some Help/Ideas Please.

Ok guys, I need some ideas. I have a 1995 Mx-3 sitting in my driveway waiting to be brought back to life. the car is beat to sh*t. There are knicks in the paint, the front bottom of the car, whatever that's considered, is all scratched up from hiiting my driveway and pot holes and speed bumps and parking lot ramps as well. the engine is shot too. i cant still drive it, but i am running on 1 and a half cylinders. its a 4 cylinder automobil, two are dead. personally, i prefer appearance over power. i could care less about speed, but i look like a fool when not so hot cars are flying by me on the road and i cant even accelerate. i dont car much about that. i want this car to look nice. i want to spend no more than around $5,000. i want a raised spoiler, rims, side skirts, and a new front piece. little things i do too it too, but im not sure if they look corney. i gots a carbon fiber liscence plate frame, chrome air valve caps (which kids steal all the time for use ont heir bicycles, damn bastards, so i screw em on tighter each time i have to replace them, but hey, what can you do?), i think i need a new security alarm system wired onto it, and quite frankly, some work to be done on the engine. i know somewhat about how a car works, and my father rebuilds old cars (cadillas, firebirds, old rabbits, fiats, etc.), so he wants to help me with this one. the pistons may be burning my oil, thats a major problem. i want to get his klz 2.5 liter engine that i always see on these message boards. what can i do to make my car look nice? i always search the net for nice pictures of pimped out mx-3's. fancy paint jobs, nice wipers, nice exhaust system and the sounds they make, exhaust tips, neons, tints, etc. how much total am i looking at, how much time and work and effort, and can this even be done? i know it can be, but i need some ideas. remember, appearance before mechanics. (i only need a car to get me from A to B, it dont matter whether its in 8.5 seconds or 8.5 minutes.)

well, you aren't gonna be swapping the kl_ze because it's a 6, and the 4 to 6 swap is pretty messy. you can look at the 4cyl. engines at www.corksport.com . i'd much rather have a stealth car than a slow pretty one. but it's ur mx, so have fun. 5K will run ya rims, kit and paint and some more goodies if you don't want to do the swap. you might be able to do the swap. it all depends.

I understand you want your car to look nice and all but what good it a tight a$$ ride if it is broke down on the side of the road or in the same spot it is in now? Who drove the car and messed it up? If you did then I would practice on my driving before I did anything :) ... You dont have to "care about speed" but you should at least want the car to run normal.. I would take care of all the basic mechanical issues before I even thought about doing anything to the appearence of the car. Do you honestly think people wont be laughing at a "pimped out"(as you put it) ride creepin' at 20mph (cause they cant go any faster) in a 70.... :D
Sorry you left yourself open for that one...

I would go with a J-Spec engine (1.8L T4cyl (BPturbo) w/approx 180 HP $990 from Corksport.com) Then maybe a body kit, and Neon under kit. That would run you about $2400US depending on the items you buy. Then paint it. After I got all that done I would work on performance. I mean, like they said, what good is a nice ride if it don't ride? :p

hey visual, not trying to sound like a smart @$$ but i don't want our man here to get confused about something you wrote. a bov(blow off valve) is totally different than a wastegate. they are on opposite sides of the induction system. the bov is on the intake and wastegate is on the exhaust. the bov relieves extra pressure (shifting, letting off the gas after gunning it) to prevent the unused air from trying to spin the turbo in the opposite direction, and the wastegate is what actually regulates your amount of boost.
but i agree, i'd get the bpt and then go from there. i'd rather have a sleeper than a creeper.
[ December 01, 2001: Message edited by: cre8v mx3 ]
