More fun with a '94 KLZE

Post by canadienne »

1994 KLZE with the funkiness here.

Everything is fixed, save for a vacuum leak we found a few days ago. But today something else popped up... a knocking sound when it idles. At first it wasn't too loud. But now it's pretty loud.

Any ideas as to what it could be? I haven't done the timing yet, so it's a possibility.

A rod knock would make me cry horrible girl tears...

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Stethoscope or the good ol' screwdriver to the ear should help with that.

Could be timing, those auto tensioners fail all of the time. Might be enough to put too much slack in the belt?

Been there. My tensioner took a dump and would make a bunch of noise from idle to 2k rpms. It eventually jumped time and lost power. $60 tensioner and re-time, all the power and no more sound.

Don't worn tensioners cause a ticking sound? He said he's getting a knock.

Hopefully it doesn't sound like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N122Iuacv_c

The louder ticking/knocking noise that would go away occasionally turned out to be a spun #6 rod bearing... The other more quiet ticking kind of noise was lifters due to oil pressure issues/mileage worn out motor..
