I'm looking to buy (need to buy) a set of KLZE flat top pistons with the stock bore. With rods or without. I got a set of DE pistons and can't return them. PM if you have some and how much you want for them.

Are your stock pistons damaged or not reusable for some reason? If you are not going with an oversize bore on your cylinders, you can clean and reuse your existing pistons with new rings. You will have to hone the cylinders to make them rough for the new rings to seat.

But if your engine was using oil before tear down, it is likely the oil rings were worn out by your cylinder bores being to out of shape from wear, which is why a machine shop would want to bore them oversize to straighten them out. Did you have the cylinders checked with a bore gauge?

The old pistons are crustier than a junkyard grill. Haven't had them cleaned and checked yet. My bore measures stock with a few minor exceptions from me twitching with the gauge. I was going to use the new pistons just because I paid for them, but if the old check good I will just sell the DE's.

Mine were crusty as well, but that will come off with carbon remover. I removed the rings and soaked each of my pistons with rods still attached in a carb/choke cleaner (I bought the gallon can with the little basket) that you can get at O'reilly's. That didn't get all the carbon of the top of the piston, so I went ahead and soaked each piston in around a 1/4" deep of carb cleaner for around 4-5 days each, and the carbon came off with a nylon brush after that... and all the varnish on the sides also came off with the same brush. All the carbon in the ring grooves also came out easily as well.

I am now going to clean all the pistons with simple green, then soak them all in fresh oil and wipe them down prior to reassembly... need to make sure I get fresh oil into the piston pin journals on the rods/pistons...

I replied to your other thread as well, but I have a set of 5 mated to rods. The rods have no caps, unfortunately.

1 or 2 of the piston skirts are slightly marred, but the crowns and ring valleys are perfect.

I would let them all go for $50 + flat-rate USPS shipping.

Clunet-I'll give your method a shot. Wife used to work for O'reilly so we still get some hookups. I tried some simple green and scothbrite but there was so much buildup I just tore up a sheet of my precious red scrubbers.

MrMazda- Thank you for replying so quick on both posts. I've never really used any forums before so it made it nice and easy for me get your reply! After I clean these up I may take you up on your offer. Even if I can reuse mine it would not hurt to have some stockpiles built up. I have extra parts and bits for my other cars, and some that I don't even have anymore.

Sounds good to me, just keep me posted! :)

Sets of fewer than 6 aren't in high demand, so I'll probably have them when yours are cleaned up! ;)
