Carbon Fiber products part 2

For the past couple of months, I have been looking at producing some carbon or fiberglass products for the Mx-3. I have always wanted to create my own parts out of carbon rather than look to some of the other products that are all ready out there, which is'nt that much. This will be the section for future ideas where some of the others have left off. I have allready created a gauge bezel out of carbon and has turned out pretty good. I am also working on door panels and should have a mould ready before to long. At least one will be made before the winter comes. Pics are coming for both..

Future ideas may include - a hood made out of entirely carbon and core material. Will include a U.V protection and possible hood pins

air box made for people running N.A or turbo. - may have to be on a custom basis

various under hood components

various interior components

Any ideas are welcome.

I have a radiator support in the works. I'm glad you said something as I have a part ready to be moulded.

Rad supports that are CF are super cool, I'd be in for one of those.

This, definitely. Problem though, people with adjustable short throws will lose that feature... :(

Anything I buy in CF will be for weight savings on the front end... My pockets will be a bit deeper come 2013, and I'd be willing to shell out for some CF goodies that rest in front of the windshield, if the weight savings are large enough :)

Looks like the rad support is the most popular piece to start with. I'm on it guys.

Your biggest weight savings will come from things you can do that do not involve CF. Reduce the wheels to lightweight 15's or 16's. :) Big stereo's in your trunk, AKA junk in your trunk.

As far as body panels go, the hood, the hatch, and the doors, if done right in CF can save quite a bit of weight. The fenders and bumpers won't benifit as much from weight savings in CF, but I am still going to make them.

I would actually love to do a rear diffuser as a functional piece to go along with a flat bottomed car. The aero is another topic though..

More to come... 8)

Anything JDM, I don't have. So unless someone is willing to give up their JDM parts for a loaner or just sell them to me, I can't reproduce any of those parts.

I have a sunroof I can make. I have a cowl, a hatch garnish, I have access to a hatch shade, etc...just one thing at a time.

gauge bezel needs trimming and filing, actually needs to be redone due to a delamanation.

I have started working on the radiator support. I should start laying down some fabric tommorow if I have time.

I admit that I thought this thread was gonna be one of those "what if" threads where nothing came from it but it's nice to see some actual results.

This should be interesting, looks like you know what you're doing and how to do it too.

Keep us updated!
