I would like to know what the best way is to uninstall the engine?

The 4 motormounts are all still in there, so is my powersteering pulley, transmission and the bar that runs from the radiator to the shifer linkage.

What should go first ?

IMO i would do take off the whole power steering pump (leave it in the engine bay) then undo the cross member mounts (tranny mounts), attach the engine hoist,then the engine side mount and tranny mount and pull, assuming you have the heater core hoses and wiring harness and all the miscellaneous things already detached.

Control Panel > Programs and Features... select "engine" then "uninstall"

I would remove the CV axles first. Then disconnect all the electrical/coolant/whatever accessories and all, remove shift linkage, engine hoist, then remove the motor mounts.

Drain the tranny before you pull the axels or you'll make a mess.

Assuming the engine harnesses are all out of the way already, I usually remove the transmission mount member and the transmission mounts first just to give myself room to work underneath. The motor mounts are enough to support it temporarily. Then the CV axels, then the shift linkage, unbolt the exhust flanges, etc. Unbolt the power steering pump and leave it in the engine compartment as suggested. Make sure all the grounds are disconnected...that sucks, pulling the ground wires apart when you lift the engine.

It can also be useful to remove the rad and alternator altogether to provide a bit more space with lifting the engine out.

DO NOT TURN THE INPUT SHAFT WHILE THE AXLES ARE OUT!! I put a piece of rolled up card board in place of the axles in the trans....the second time....

Easiest way I found was transmission out the bottom left front then the motor out the top, far easier to place the transmission on the engine when you can lift it by hand then trying to maneuver everything still attached in the bay not to mention the time it saves you from having to remove radiator and such. Oh and you can just unbolt the ac compressor and powersteering pump from the engine itself and leave all the lines connected so you dont have to mess with fluids and freon.

I'm confused. You're talking about cross member mounts (tranny mounts) and about engine side mount and tranny mount.

i ment front and back, i call them xmember mounts cause they're connected to the xmember lol

Disconnect every thing, I disconnected the PS hose from the pump and had no problem. Drain all fluids, disconnect the exhaust manifolds, disconnect shifter linkages, pull axles, and last disconnect the two side and one front mount with a cherry picker in place so you can take the wight off the engine to get the bolts out then lift slowly and disconnect the wires/plugs you missed (like VRIS, engine bonding wires) when you see them start to tug. Oh ya, remove the hood of the car first.

I would recommend looking at the online manual and following Mazda's procedure fairly closely. I just did a swap and found that with a proper engine hoist and a lift bar and clevises (available at Advance Auto) the engine came up and over the front of the car without removing the hood. It was close, and you have to rotate the engine counter-clockwise as you lift, but it comes right out with the alternator, trans, and the trans mounts still attached.

All the other advice about axles, ground wires, harness, etc applies. Take the radiator out, it's an extra 5 minutes!

Be careful and take your time!

For your shifter linkage, use a C clamp to press the bolts out. I did have success using a pneumatic chisel as well. Those bolts can be a bugger. Spray them a day ahead of time with penetrate,,,in fact spray every thing before hand with penetrate. No one mentioned fuel lines as I recall, remove those from the FPR as well and mark them. Reinstalling them backwards can result in a lot of unneeded trouble shooting.
