He Guys,

At a junkyard near my place they received a motor.
Thought it was a k8 engine, but it's a ZE.

The person at the JY told me the car overheated and got send to the junkyard.
He wanted to have 150$ for the engine.

What would you think; could this be worth buying?
Are there any things that I could check without taking it apart to check for the real damage.

See if you can turn the crank, if it seems to move relatively easy, it didnt seize. A compression tester is small enough to take with you, check the numbers. Look at the spark plugs for any white residue, that would tell you if the head gasket blew and check the oil, if it looks milky, there's probably coolant in it. If all these check out, it could still probably use a rebuild, but at least most of the components should be intact.

I think its worth the buy. You could probably still make your money back if ya sold it on in pieces. I'm actually looking for klze throttle body ;-)

You can't do a compression test with the engine out, can you ?

You can, all you need to be able to do is get a socket on the crank to turn the engine over by hand.

Would you need more speed to do that ? I mean a starter turns the engine often.

nope, it will compress the same regardless. 2 to 3 rotations should do it.
