I was under the impression that it was a toyota engine and they also stuck it in the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S.

Its a Subaru 2.0L H4 boxer engine. about 200hp. The power is definitely in the upper RPMs though. The direct injection is Toyota based and is not the same as the Imprezza 2.0L with direct injection (quite noisy in the BRZ and such). The drivetrain is also Subaru based, but the rear Diff is a Toyota unit (stronger).

I work at a Subaru dealer, so I've driven and been under the BRZ a few times.

Pretty much, lol. But ALL the electronics are toyota from what I've gathered from the mechanics at work. The BRZ even uses a toyota key...

I sat in the Scion FR-S, it really give me an Mx-3 feel with the interior
