is the KLZE dipstick same as the K08? i just did an oil change and it reaches the Low line after 4L of oil poured in. On flat ground....any ideas why?

What is your dipstick labeled as? IIRC, they're KL01 universally.

Then you're good man, so long as it's not damaged.

I think the dipsticks for K engines are all the same. And for K engines they should read full at 4L of oil in the pan. I do know the plastic loops at the top will sometimes pull off - is is possible they will slide lower thereby holding the dipstick higher in the pan? Other explanations: oil not all drained into the pan, larger oil filter holding more oil from the pan, or another reason the dipstick is not traveling all the way down.

Sometimes it'll read nothing on my K8, then a quick drive will cause it to read full again. It's annoying, but work with it! You'll know if you're THAT low.

Funny, I remember reading a while back that the ZE dipstick was different, there was people searching high and low specifically for ZE dipsticks for the longest time...

It's not really strange that people would say that, since the term "true KLZE" is still bandied about regularly. It's not hard to imagine that everything from "oversized valves" to a "special" dipstick would be discussed.

Heads(w/ Cams) and Pistons make the ZE what it is; for a grand total of $300, you can buy loaded heads and pistons. Add in a fresh rebuild on a Junkyard block... and you've got a truly low miles KLZE engine.

Although, to be fair, you do eliminate the risk of a shady importer. Some like to live on the wild side.

For the nay-sayers, I've got 2 sets of 10:1 flat tops that I picked up for a combined cost of $125, both sets pressed onto rods and one with new rings. I picked up a set of KL131 heads for free as well, so I'm short a set of cams which I would send to Colt for regrinding anyways. I have 3 sets of KL01s to choose between, for $0.

With a little patience, and regular checks of the FS boards(here, MX-6.com, PT, ClubProtege, etc.), you can snag anything for a good price.

ZE dipstick and K8 are different. I lined them up, definitely not the same.

Couldn't find it on the K8. Will have to search the shed when I get a chance. But I remember using both for comparison and the K8 always read differently due to different length.

If anyone had their old K8 one lying around, please take a pic against the ZE and save me from rummaging through crap in the shed lol

Millenia KL: KL01, yellow handle, straight dipstick.

'92 K8: KL01, yellow handle, straight dipstick.

They're identical, I'll post 2 pictures when I get home. Cellphone forum time ftw.
