Leishmaniasis in my dog

Today is one of the worst days in my life.
The blood test of my dog returned and he suffers from leishmaniasis.The rates are very high.1/3200.
There is a medical treatment but it is more effective only in the first stage of the disease.
Anyone who had any experience on this?
PLEASE any advice would be helpful..
