Why would a gas meter not work anymore ?

The light when I'm low on fuel still works. But the meter always indicates full (i wish it was !!)

I have a semi related question here.....

Ummm..... do all MX3s have fuel lights that come one when gas is low? I ask because mine has never gone off before....

You sure it's the gauge and not the sending unit in the tank? I've never replaced the gauge, but I've had to replace the sending unit before, maybe even twice, but the low fuel light is independant from the gauge needle, that seems to be a different sensor.

I'd test the sending unit first as well, I've had several fail in other cars.

So where could i find the sending unit ? How does it look like?

I've replaced the stock pomp with the walbro, perhaps I messed up the sending unit ?

Did this happen when you were modifying your gauge cluster?

The fuel pump attaches to the sending unit, I haven't personally had a reason to take mine out yet, but I would assume that it is under the rear seat with the pump. :D

Hmm, well that's still not too bad... when my light is steady on I have almost exactly 3.2 Gallons left!

The sending unit is in the gas tank, accessible under the rear seat. It looks like this:

That's for a 323, but nearly identical. That black square box is your floater.

you can test the sender by putting a volt meter onto the 2 leads (screws) that the gauge needle uses for signal. with the pump assembly removed from the car have someone move the sending arm up and down while its attached to the harness and the ignition on(car off). voltage ouput between the leads should move up and down with the lever, if not replace the sender, if it does replace the gauge...

Super old topic bump.
Where did you find this sending unit? Did you get it via Ali Express? searching on what key words?
