Build Video/Race Compilation of my LS1 RX7

Post by mattster03 »

Hey guys. I am sure no one remembers me from waaay back in the day, but I used to be a pretty big contributer. Somehow my post count got reset :(. Well I left my MX-3 obsession for a V8 RX7 obsession, and so I thought I'd post up a video of the build and race action. Enjoy!

I must say, I had never considered a v8 swap in an FD.... That is the best idea I've heard all day.

it is a pretty frequent swap makes the car more reliable but it messes the 50/50 weight from what i hear
and you dont get the awesome sound of a rotary....

Because the LS is aluminum, and the rotary is iron plus all the turbo stuff, I hear that it doesn't oddly enough.

Haha thanks guys! My fastest time so far is a 10.94 @ 130MPH... that's with a 1.62 sixty foot time. I was really limited by having no cage last year, aka "one and done" for going to fast, so I'm looking forward to a full season of passes next year. I think I can get a 1.50 sixty time and hopefully get it into the 10.7's or maybe 10.6's.

It is a VERY common misconception that swapping in an LS1 destroys the 50/50 distribution. As someone has mentioned, the LS1 is an all aluminum motor that is actually only 50lbs or so heavier than the 13B. My car weighs less than it did when it arrived with a rotary (around 2,800lb) and it still is essentially 50/50 distributed :D

Me? I've never heard of that place before, but a lot of the clips & pics in the video are taken in B.C. so you might see some familiar scenery...
