you should check or ask these guys here http://www.clubprotege.com/forum

they have a lot of FE3 swaps going on and probably more info on them.
i imagine there wouldn't be extremely much to do since you already have a BP

here's some info i found on an amazing swap worklog
FE3-323 wrote:Swapping in a FE3. requires less different parts then a KL swap.

a Kia FE3 can be found in the JY for the same cost as any other motor.
MX6 2.2(NA) transmission/axels (same cost as any other in the JY)
uses existing BP front rear/top rubber engine mounts.
uses existing BP rear/top engine mount brackets
uses existing transmission crossmember
uses existing BP shift linkage
uses MX3 V6 beltside engine mount
you can buy a front engine mount bracket from me
you can buy an A/C bracket from me
you can buy TB adapters for **full mazda FE3's only**
BP/t management can be used

BOLTS RIGHT IN! (no cutting needed)
but then again. not a single other member has enough balls to just drop one in. I seriously don't understand that one.
So virtually the same cost as a BP swap
his worklog can be found here http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showth ... t=FE3+swap

Just today I started looking at FE motors.

I generally had no respect for them, but the FE3 is decent. It is a really good base. Strong block, strong bottom end, square, ideal rod ratio, dual spring up top... I just never knew about it. Too bad, its a neat motor. Better than the BP if you ask me.

There's still other garbage F motors out there. The F2 2.0's in the 2g probes/1g 626/mx-6, the 1.8 in the pre 96 626, the FS crap in the early 00 proteges...

Ryan,

FE3's are probably a better engine swap than KL's...but shhh I don't want to hear it. I love KL's for their power, sound, and the fact that its not a 4 banger.

Ya, that's why I think it's an awesome motor. 10 second MX3 on a 4 banger. Minimal cost to get there, this is it.

Though I would not give up the KL scream for any other motor in there. It's been a year since I've driven her, and it's killing me. (Though our new Mazda 3 helps quell that)

The Fe3 came stock in that.

If I ever come across $10k in disposable income, I'm going to make the best 1/4 mile sleeper in my province.

Lol.

@ OP...

The FE motor will not bolt up to your trans. You will need to get a GS trans and axles. I have heard of some guys running BP ECU's as i guess they are close but not perfect. You may need to notch out the frame rail for the crank pulley as well. Other than that it should be fairly straight forward.

The FE motor is the silent horse because Mazda did not use it here in the US. in other countries it is a well known producer of power and devastation... :) Better than a KL... stock for stock Yes imo, but a well built KL has potential. this motor would be a great addition to any RS in N/A form even. 160hp... a lot better than the 100 it cam with

The thing with the Kia is it is front to rear making it so you have to source out another Exhaust mani, intake mani, and oil pan and pick up, as well as some re plumbing for the coolent system.
