I previously owned an MX-3 GS and I now own an Escort GT which is hella quicker than the MX-3. Top speed of the MX-3 is better though.

BP EGT's can be quick.
I had one hang with me when I was stock. At 4000RPM+ in 5th, it was the first time I had major clutch slippage. Stayed at ~4500, but the speed kept on going up. That was the beginning of the end for that clutch.
DJ, dont be a flamer.

the escort gt has a 1.8L DOHC 4cyl Mazda Engine. Obviously, the MX-3 GS has a 1.8L DOHC 6cyl Mazda engine. What's the difference between the 2 engines (besides the number of cylinders/valves)? What difference does the V6 make and how come the escort is quicker?

The BP has a broad torque curve, whereas the the K8 is more of a high RPM motor. Now, from the factory, the K8 has ~3hp and ~1ft/lb of torque more than the BP. It's quite likely that the BP has more like 120 ft/lbs, as its long stroke and low rod ratio would make it more of a low RPM grunt motor, whereas the K8's 69.6mm stroke and F1-like rod ratio makes it sing above 5000RPM, where the BP's power just starts dying.

quote:
and how come the escort is quicker?

It's not. :)
You could keep on talking about how escorts are faster, or you could take it to the track and see what times you get, and compare them to MX-3 times. That would be fair and logical.

i wasn't really sure if escorts were quicker i was just referencing from this site: http://members.aol.com/jbafia/jackscar.htm
it says 93 egt 0-60 is 8.4 seconds and 1/4 mile is 16.5, and 92 mx-3 gs 0-60 is 9.2 and 1/4 mile is 16.8.
[ November 27, 2001: Message edited by: finchuck ]

so are these stats inaccurate or something? or is a stock egt actually quicker than an mx-3? given that all things are equel such as the driver, conditions, etc.?

At any rate it will be a very close race, but my money is on the MX-3's powerband 2 out of 3 times.
