Hey everyone, ran into a little issue. Went to fire up my car not to long ago and i got no spark what so ever. it just sits there and cranks. What's everything that would cause me to get no spark? Thanks!

dead disty.

pull it out, and spin the rotor by hand, where the cam would spin it. Listen for the fuel pump (ingnition on) and the injetors firing.

If nothing, then no spark either. No G or NE1 signal.

If something, still maybe no spark, but for a totally different reason (coil).

I had the same problem here too, took my car out to the bar one night, got back home, the next day she wouldn't fire up. Left for 15 month deployment to afghan, just got back wouldn't start still. long story short..i got no spark, print out the wiring diagram..check for power and ground, got no power from the main relay. jump power across the main relay, and she fire right up. mazda charges a good chunk of change for that relay, so looks like i'll go to autozone and buy a cheapy 12v relay and make it work.

Or post a WTB. I have two or three spare harnesses, fuse boxes intact, with every relay you could ever need. Yours, just the cost of shipping.

If your main relay was cooked, a hundred other things in the bay wouldn't work.

Everythings on and working.. when i turn the key on before turning it over i can hear everythings turn on and start working but then when i try and fire it it just crank and cranks untill my battery goes dead.. i smell fuel after a lot of cranking so i know its gettin gas. ima go find a junk yard disty and see if that works.. is there any tricks to taking the disty off without throwing the timing out? mark it and then put the new disty in between the marks? only ever played with a disty once and it took me like half hour to get my motor timed right lol.

There's a bunch of tolerances that determine disty timing. If you swap the unit for another, you'll only have ballpark timing using your old mark.

Learn how to read a wiring diagram.

G section, page 32. Yes, I have that memorized.

Make sure disty has adequate power and ground at proper pins.

Remove disty, plug the two connectors in, turn the car to "ON" and then spin the rotor by hand. Do the injectors fire? Pump run?

If they do, your signals (NE1 and G) work, and its the ignitor or coil.

Okay ima read that in the morning, and also try what you just said. but i had a random thought as i was laying on the couch... CRANK ANGLE SENSOR!. i went and checked to see if mine was plugged in a stuf. and yah its all plugged in and what not BUT i looked and where they ran the wire behind all the pulls n s---. it got warm and curved n started rubbing on the ps/water pump belt and now has a whole worn through the side of the wire. would that cause it to not fire? ima go grab one tomorrow. there was one on the car i got the disty from.

My car starts and runs with that sensor unplugged.

ohhh okay. well i tried what you said and i can hear s--- turning on and making noise when i turn the rotor. i talked to my cousin to and he said it shouldnt be anything to do with fuel because im not getting spark out of the plug wire, like i pulled it out and tried crankin with it on a ground and there was nothing. :crying: would my 1 month old plug wires be shot already? :/ ugh!

Plug wires hardly go. Target the ignition module or the coil.

Check the coil resistances, also found in the G section. The numbers won't be in the manual specs, but it has to be really out to not work.

Then its just the ignition module, which is usually the problem. New disty time/ HEI time.

i only got a GM ignition module. dont got the coil yet, was about to buy one and then this happened. how could i check if its the module? is there anyway to check other then just buying another? and how exactly does everyone ground them, like i ran my wire through the one hole and then joined another wire on the other side and grounded it to the frame. is that right? it said to run it through the hole but it seemed to just bounce n move around, i also used a 12 gauge wire for the ground instead of the requested 16 gauge. Thanks for all your help by the way, i really appreciate it.
