KLDE Swap Question

Hey guys been a long time. I miss my MX3 so much. I'm here in Vegas and can't find one V6 with the 5 Speed. My question is can the 5 speed from the 4 banger mate up to the KL or now? Also will the KL have any problems dropping into the 4 banger engine bay? All I can find here are 4 bangers with 5 Speeds or automatic V6s how hard would it be to put the 5 speed from another car into the Automatic? Ultimately ima have the 5 speed with a KLDE. Any and all input appriciated.

you want a k series transmission for a k series motor.

theres some worklogs with v6 swaps into rs cars you should take a look at. you will for the most part need a donor gs with a manual transmission to do this swap. itd be alot easier/cheaper for you to try and find a gs 5 speed and sell your current car then it would be to swap 4 cylinder auto to v6 5-speed...

try searching a little more. there are a bunch of threads with the answers to your question...

I agree on the difficulty level... another car would be easier. If you're head over heals in love with yours, you need a donor car.

I know Mike, I was just clarifying for him  That would have confused me when I first looked into it.

...or a 626, or an MX-6, or a Probe...

You need the pedal assembly and shift linkage, and DS axle from an MX-3, no other car.

Its much easier to get a MX-3 donor, than half an MX-3 donor and half a MX-6 donor...

True, but, last time I checked, the MX-3 didn't come with a KL-DE, so a full MX-3 donor is out of the question, and it's much easier to pull the engine/transmission from a 626/MX-6 as a whole, than to get an MX-3 tranny, and couple it with an MX-6/626 engine.

Did you even read what I wrote?

Yeah, I did. Did you read what the OP wrote?

The OP wants to swap in a KL-DE. How is he supposed to do that from only one car? Should he start looking for an MX-3 that has already a KL-DE swapped in?

Yeah, he does. From an ATX, or from a 4 cylinder. In either case, you need an MX-3 donor car for a dozen parts... off the top of my head:

Pedal assembly
DS axle
shift linkage + all hardware
centre console trim
engine mounts (KL rear and side trans mounts don't work)

Not to mention if its a 4 -> 6 swap...

I never said he didn't need an MX-3. That's a given. But, like it or not, he will also need an MX-6 or 626 for the engine, as the 3 doesn't come equipped with the KL, so the "1 donor car vs. 2" argument doesn't apply here. And it makes much more sense to get the engine and transmission together as an assembly from an MX-6 (which, as you know, also has better ratios than the K8 tranny), than to get the engine from one donor car, and the tranny from another one.
