I've been unable to find it via search, although I found some great work logs.

I'm basically wondering if anyone yanked their A/C and weighed everything, and if so, I seriously hope you wrote the weight down.

Are you planning to get rid of your A/C?

Either way, it's really not the weight savings that's important, but the hp savings on the engine. I don't know exactly how many horses the mx-3 A/C takes, but A/C's in general tend to take a lot of it.

I have 2 complete A/C systems in the garage... if I get around to it I could weigh everything this weekend. I'm guessing close to 20-25 lbs. since the compressor and condenser have some weight to them.

The compressor alone is AT LEAST that much, I have one laying around, it's a heavy mofo - you could work out with it. I would give it in the 30-40lbs range. Then consider the refrigerant, lines, condenser, condenser fan, receiver drier, and interior cooling unit plus all the relays. I'd guess the whole thing is at least 100lbs.

I'm not planning to at this point, but I'm definitely considering it... Especially if it weighs in at 100 pounds LOL. It'd be beyond consideration if it's quite that high...

I don't use A/C, even when I have it. I live in Oregon, and on days when I would even consider using it... I'm not driving a car haha, I'm on a boat or on the river swimming.

Mark, I'd be VERY grateful for an accurate weigh on that! Do you happen to have the relays and wiring as well, as nightshade pointed out? Also, any chance you could get the weight of the refrigerant as well? I doubt you kept it after you yanked the A/C... but I know nothing about A/C in general.

The refrigerant is the easy part: less than 2 Lbs (and a few ounces of oil).

I wouldn't get rid of the system. You never know what's gonna happen in the future. Just putting a new, shorter belt in (avoiding the A/C compressor) will give you the extra HP of not having to spin it for nothing, and you will be able to reverse it easily, should you change your mind in the future.

Well think of it this way. Me and JWMX3 both have 94 GSes with no AC and removed rear seats. A GS is supposed to weigh in the high 2500lbs but ours are at 2400 something lbs. I highly doubt just removing the rear seats is enough to drop it that much.

I'm planning to "de-belt" the A/C already, this is just a tentative idea for a 2nd car coming in the future. A track only car, I'd like to shave 500 pounds out, and this sounds like at least 75-85 pounds(leaving margin for error) that's relatively free, especially for a track only car.

For a track only car, definitely. Getting rid of the A/C is a must. I'd also recommend getting rid of the power steering.

What kind of racing are you planning to do?

I'm not sure yet, it really depends... If I take the time to make a track only car, I'm thinking FE3T and drag...

Note these weights are not precise... I was using a bathroom scale (LOL) but it will give you a good idea!

A/C Compressor (including bracket and bolts): 17 lbs
Condenser Fan: 4 lbs
Condenser: 4 lbs
Receiver Drier: 1 lb
Refrigerant Lines/Pressure Switch/Relays: 3 lbs?
Cooling Unit (inside the car): 9 lbs
Total estimated weight +/- 40 lbs

So as I was going through this, it dawned on me that the second fan is for the A/C only? Is this correct? It doesn't run at all in conjuction with the other fan??

LOL at nightshade's estimate - you should probably start lifting weights if you think the compressor is heavy...

And Inodoro why do you recommend getting rid of power steering?

I'm not 100% sure, but, initially, yeah, it's just for the A/C.

You save some weight, but, most importantly, you free a few hp.
