Gidday gents

My car has been going for MONTHS, been to the race track , lotsa road driving, but now will not start
Engine cranks fine
I have compression
I have HEI mod and i have spark, big spark with massive coil :)
i have fuel pump going, as its hardwired
But i have completely Dry spark plugs after trying and trying to get to start <-- the odd bit

NOW

here is the odd thing, if i take put some fuel into the manifold and crank it will start!
leave it running for 2 mins then turn it off and try again..it will NOT start again, just keeps cranking

i have converted a 4cly BG ford laser to a KL-ZE using MX-3 parts (JDM)
i have MX3 ECU loom and MX3 power loom, KL-ZE ECU, AFM etc etc

all has been working together for the last 8mnths
i have replaced the ECU and the AFM....will not start still

Only clue i have is that i started to get worse and worse and worse,

Ideas would be welcome

Thanks mates

Dave

Well my first instinct is that there is a fuel delivery problem. You have said that it started when you put fuel in the manifold. I would try that and see how long it will run. My bet is that it will die eventually.

I would also trace the fuel pressure. Remove the feed hose from the rear fuel rail and crank it into a bucket. If you get fuel there I would then pull an injector and make sure that it is spraying while cranking.

The manual suggests that you can tell if the injectors are operating by listening with a scope...and other procedures worth reading.

nope injectors are fine, as the car does run, and runs fine, no rough idle, no miss fires, PLENTY of power.

I car runs for for well over 2-4 minutes last night when it started , so the little amount of fuel does get it going, and the injectors take over when i stop cranking

possibly the ECU is not opening the injectors when cranking? , but ive replaced with a good ECU anyways
or the ECU is not getting power , or possibly the ECU is not getting power when Cranking?

and as i have spark while cranking, the little amount of fuel i put in the mani is enough to start the engine so i can stop cranking?

What color is the MX3 power to ECU wire?
Blue? or and ???

Sounds like a faulty fuel pump to me.

fuel pump works great

comes out the lines fast :)

im starting to think its electrical to the ECU or relay

Id check fuel pressure coming out. It might seem like its working but it might not put out enough psi

thanks for you help guys

i know what your all saying about the fuel pump and relay etc

but they dont explain how the car can run PERFECTLY ....once it gets going ?
fuel pump or not....it doesnt run lean, injectors fire up...doesnt smoke or run rich

i thnk there is something more evil at work with the electrical system of the car

as i said

the plugs are dry when trying to start it ...

poor a few ml/s of fuel.. its fine ??

very odd
