Mx3stylez's worklog '96 ZE-T

Post by mx3stylez »

Ok, so here it goes. I probably should have started this a long time ago, but..
I bought my '96 precidia in 2003 completely bone stock. over the next couple of years, i installed ze, intake, exhaust, rims and tires. MAN.. was that a fun little car to drive around. at the time, i was living in Halifax, and amonst my friends, i could beat alot of them down "dump road" lol.
ImageImage
So one day in 2005, i go to start my car, and no dice. tried push starting it a couple times, and it would start up here and there, but i didnt trust it anymore. did alot of searching on mx-3.com to find that our cars are infamous for ignitor problems. And thats where it all started...
Soon enough i was reading about all kinds of things on here, what you can do with these cars, and i got hooked. soon after, i saw the bulk buy for the turbo kit, got in that, ordered wisco 8.5 comp pistons, pauter rods, toga bearings from a guy on here, an areomotive afpr, act stage 3 clutch and much much more, too much to list.i pulled the engine out, sent it to the engine machine shop to get the pistons and rods in, lighten my flywheel, as well as all new gaskets and seals and whatever else need to get done. when i got the engine back, i put the new clutch in and dropped the motor in. by the way, i was still waiting for the turbo kit. next i bought the mp5 front bumper, sides, and rear bumper, then sent the car to the paint shop to have it all installed and get the car painted. now i was origionally going to just paint the car black, but i had an idea one day that i wanted my car to be different from any other car i have ever seen. i choose to go with urban camoflage, and i love it!!ImageImageImageImage
Guess what! after many months, the turbo kit finally came in!!
ImageImageImageImage
It was missing a few of the peices, but i guess i was pretty lucky, cause i think some people didnt get thiers.
So, at this time, i still didnt know too much about turbos and how to install them and magasquirt. plus there was some cutting and welding that needed to get done, so i opted to take it to one of my "friends" shops to get the car running with the turbo. Well, they worked on it, a bit. and it sat there for almost a year with them feeding me bs about what they were doing on it. i looked at the hack job done to the ms install and almost passed out!! one day, i rolled up with a truck and trailler, and a couple friends, and we took the car without me paying them anything.. i was choked!! then i took the car to another better known shop in the city. they got the car running without ms, but really rough. a very unsteady idle, and black smoke everywhere.
So that makes it 3 years after taking the car off the road, and i still cant drive it.
Shortlty after that, i moved to Edmonton for work. I put the car on a trailer and towed it all the way out here with my ford ranger, i was pretty impressed it made the trip no problem. My cousin has a mechanics shop here, and since i didnt know anyone else then, i decided i didnt trust some of the work done to the car, and i wanted to clean alot of things up. like running the engine bay wires through the frame, and paint the bay. i still didnt know much about ms, and what all i needed to make that work, but i was doing alot of reaserch on it at the time. remember, ive got a '96 and not too many people ms a 96. i just kept puting it off and continued to read everything i could about it. so, i got the engine back in, but had to move my car cause my cousin was moving shops. there was still a few things i had to work out, like injectors, finish the ms, finish guages, and other small stuff that we all know takes so much time. but i had no where to work on it, and put the car into storage for over a year:(. Plus, i got really busy with work, and hand no time for it.
Well, now im in a house with a garage.. YES!!
ImageImage
So, i figured, why not pull the engine and buy a ze tranny before i call it done. so i am in the midst of doing that now. tranny is torn apart, gears are at a machine shop being taken off the shafts ( they really dont want to come off) and then on thier way to get cryotreated.
ImageImageImageImagewhen i get the parts all back, this will finally find a homeImage
To help with putting the power to the ground, i have some cvt axcles that are suppossed to handle 500 hp and some traction bars. ill take pics of those when i get them installed.
I finally got a chance to address my injectors. they are modded red tops from a 300zx. i got them flow tested and then installed them to the rails and made up a wire harness, i think it turned out pretty good

My only complaint is that you did not post this car sooner.

Great car, big thumbs up.
We all want to be fast and look cool. Cool changes but fast never does.

some pics of the engine out
ImageImageImageImage
i know its alot, but i went ahead and redid all the wiring under the hood now that i know what i need and what i dont need. since im going full stand alone, i removed the vris, egr crap that wasnt doing anything, purge system, all the o2 sensors, vay, iac, and all my distibutor wires except for the cam sensor wires. i will be running msd 6a, blaster 3 coil, and a tach adapter instead and just using the dizzy for the cam signal and sending out my spark. i was amazed how much it cleaned it up.
Today, i FINALLY finished wiring up my ms. i just needed to install a couple more fuses and then push it into place. its not secured yet, but this is where it sits
Image
and the oyther day, i finished installing everything in my console

Sorry man, I dont have the weight of the rods. They were pretty large though, and origionally did not have full movement inside the block. i had to have the block shaved a bitso they could fit. if it helps, they were made out of chromeoly steel, which is considerable lighter than steel or forged steel but just as strong.

Thanks for the positive comments. its taken alot of work to stay on top of the rust with the car sitting for so long. I am an electrician by trade.
