Alright as Im looking to do a transmission job in the near future, can anyone help me out with a list of interchangeable ATX transmissions for a 93 4cyl sohc model. Preferably if any later models would be an upgrade, and no, no suggestions for a MTX swap please I am under strict orders she will only drive an automatic.

anything from another B series engine. No upgrades, they all sucked, just install a cooler and take car of it and it will last longer.

So pretty much your saying theres no better options out there like for the sixs where we can put in a 626 top gear and such? Only asking b/c I havent dabbled with the 4cyls much and would like to only do the job once. Wasnt sure if protege/626s would have different or optimal gearing. Otherwise I figure its like the KL and most axles will work w/o a problem? Unfortunatly it seems like most of our BP club opts to rip the atx out.

626/MX-6/Probe 4 cyls are FS motors, and their ATX (or MTX) won't work.

You're stuck with 323, protege, escort, MX-3. B6/BP motors.

You'll need to research axles lengths if you don't want to use your MX-3 ones.

Alright ryan help me out here, Ive found a tranny from a 93 dohc protege, what in all will I need to make it work in the 93 sohc mx3. As every interchange list Ive found lists the mx3 seperate 91-93. Obviously it will work but what extras do I need to get on the way, ie axles/computers an such

Unless its a B5, take the engine too, its a BP.

Judging by the thread title, this is an ATX?

I don't remember this all as well any more, especially the ATX's, but I think everything should bolt over. Only iffy part is axles, and I think you can use those too. If you ask your local Mazda dealer nicely to see their shop manuals, it lists the axles lengths in there, in the axles section. The splines/sizes will be the same on either end between the Protege and Mx-3.

Yea its a SOHC 4cyl automatic that Im in need of the transmission for. So just to be clear Im going to need to stick with a sohc protege/sephia/323 to make this work as a bolt on then?

I'm quite sure any car with a Mazda B series engine that is roughly 1998 and older will work... not the new gen miata BP's or anything like that.
