FUEL PUMP RELAY CLICKING

I have some iginton problems and solved them with a distributor change. Today, the car died in mid traffic. All attempts to restart have a crazy clicking happening in the center console, the fuel pump realy I assume. Anyone ever have this? Is this symptom of the pump being done, or the relay failing or just a general low power condtion?

most likely relay failing, you can easily check the voltage there with a voltmeter.

Are you sure its the relay? A poor battery connection can cause clicking of the main relay which would make the fuel pump relay click as well.

+1

Have your battery checked first then go from there...

I did say to check it with a voltmeter, mind you I did skip checking the battery, connections.

Turned into a simple fix on a poor ground cable at the battery. The custom shop put on nice shiny connector with a wing nut compressing a cut cable. This had to be replaced. Thanks for suggestions as trouble shooting sucks in -30 weather and when these cars get old, you never know where to start.

I have a feeling the integrity of the battery connection depends on current draw, like if it might read fine on a meter with 0.2A drawing, but at 200A, the connection might break, causing these weird issues.

I have had exactly the same issue with my battery ground in the trunk. Any electrical gremlin occurs the first thing I check now is my grounds.

Funny we had a post about 2 years ago (mine) and NDferSPuds mentioned wiring as well. I couldn't start my car without a boost. Turned out corrosion on the main wire to the starter was restricting current flow. I cleaned it up and car started great from then on. Do any of you put grease on the battery terminals? That was an old school way to keep corrosion on the posts at bay.
