my car is possessed, intermitten stalls, dies and hesitates

This car will intermittenly just die when you let off the gas. When you immediately restart the car, it runs fine until the next time it decides to do it.
Sometimes the RPM will dip down to zero like it's dying, only to jump back up.

Intermittenly the car will completely lose power between 2000-3000 RPM.
When you push the gas, the car refuses to accelerate. Again, turn car off, restart car and starts running fine. Engine occasionally jerks, with movement on the shifter almost like your transmission would slip except the trans doesn't appear to be slipping.

I used to get an error code 17, Oxy sensor and I already replaced the O2 sensor 2 times trying to fix the issue. I have also replaced the distributor cap & rotor, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug lines, checked the fuel pump ground, engine grounds, put a can of seafoam through it and just recently back flushed the cooling system etc.

Could a temperature sensor cause it to intermittenly do this? Or the mass air flow sensor? I've checked for vacuum leaks and haven't found any yet. I'm running out of stuff to check....almost ready to take it in.

Thanks

Internals of your disty are shot by the sounds of it man, changing the cap and rotor wont fix that.

I'd recommend what he suggested as well as doing full tune-up on your car.

For the O2 sensor did you reset the ECU before checking for the code again?

The procedure is:

Disconnect Negative on battery.
Press and hold brake pedal for 20 seconds
Reconnect brake pedal

That should reset codes.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I did reset the ECU. Actually it's been reset multiple times for different things.

Well, I'm going to go ahead and replace the temp sensor just because I already have a new one already.

I'll keep that in mind about the distributor and test/and or replace. Whatever ends up fixing it, I'll post.

My vote is for a good size air leak in the intake.

I vote battery connections. They do weird things to a car. unstable voltage supply.

And the Winner IS:

So far I would say the problem seems to be >> Massive Air leak.

I previously fixed cracks in the main air hose (I thought) with silicon. The silicon doesn't seem to stand up to engine heat and the cracks were back. I wasn't even sure if they were all the way through the pipe but decided to replace the hose with one from another car. After that, testing and cleaning the Mass Sensor (ok).

Problem Gone.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. Really weird problem. It kept reading out O2 sensor for the problem with the check engine light. I didn't think there was anything wrong with my new $45 O2 sensor.

The only real value in the CAI mod is that it eliminates the 15 year old plastic intake. It's worth doing if only for that.

I hypothasize that 80+% of all idle, stutter, loss of power issues go back to unmetered air in the intake.

And it looks better... and it sounds nice... at least mine does.
