You'll need a strut spring compressor, and a vice. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. Just pay attention to how things came apart.

you don't even need a spring compressor for the rear's, i put the rear mounts on with just my hands last time i did them

So did I, but you never know what stut/spring combination was previously installed, and these can have different results. Safest to use a spring compressor.

I would say it's pretty safe to remove the strut mounts without compressing the spring. IF there is any tension it won't be enough to shoot it accross the room or anything. From there it's just a question of whether you can get the mount back on by hand.

I did this just recently, lowered her around 35-40mm, the fronts definitely need a set of spring compressors, the back weren't so bad, also getting the tops back on was a pain in the a-- till one of my mates was wandering past and passed me a set of multi-grips dunno' what you call em' over there....like these. It will hold the shaft in place while you fit the top part of the assembly. Use a rag on the shaft of the strut so you don't damage it.

Yes you don't need a spring compressor for the rear struts. When i changed the rear h&R springs with the oems i needn't use a compressor.JUST be careful to rise the car from rear left and right to make the change.
