so, i think i found a nice 2nd hand klze. only thing its equiped with an kl gearbox. and i could leave it, or swap for k8.

so how much difference does it make.

how much seconds will i lose on acceleration?
how much top speed/milage will i gain?

k8 Gear Ratios (Input:Output)
1st 3.307:1
2nd 1.833:1
3rd 1.310:1
4th 1.030:1
5th 0.795:1
Reverse 3.166:1
Final Drive 4.388:1

kl Gear Ratios:
1st 3.307:1
2nd 1.833:1
3rd 1.310:1
4th 1.030:1
5th 0.795:1
Reverse 3.166:1
Final Drive 4.105:1

This is not new information.

If you look, you'll see the ratios you listed are exactly the same minus the FD ratio.

First of all, where did you get that info? All of the K series gear boxes are G series boxes, which means nothing concerning their ratios. How do you know those are your box? The MX-6, 626, Prabe GT, and MX-3 GS all use g series gear boxes, all with different ratios/final drives. Do more research.

I know its not new.

I got this info out of the official transmission swap information thread. which you wrote i see. I know the k8 ratio is correct, says so in the manual. i assummed that the other one was for an mx-6, as you stated in that thread its of an 2,5l kl.
but i'm not giving info

I want to know which gearbox is faster for an klze

Mx-6 or k8 tranny.

i used search alot btw, found some threads about it. but nothing conclusive.

klze + k8 tranny

0-60mph in howmany secs?
top # mph?

klze + mx-6 tranny

0-60mph?
top?

how much does the FD ratio affect this?

FD affects the length of the gears. Typically the MX-6 trans is used for drag racing(shortest gears), Probe for DD (longest gears) and the MX-3 is somewhere in the middle, but with a lesser FD for shorter gears.

Unfortunately that thread was never completed or revised... I need to go back and work on it some day.

I'm currently working on a program that will visually display how different gear box setups affect acceleration/range of gears.

:?: Everyone else says mx-3 is shortest, it has the highest nr FD

that would be a cool program btw

When you compare the mx6 vs the mx3 gears, yes; then mx3 is the shortest

The world of gearboxes is hugo with many possibilities from Ford Probe's, to Escorts, Kia's and Mazda's.

Like said on the other forum, you won't notice any difference. Just take the one in the best condition.
If you're serieus about tranny's in the future, then do a huge amount of research and you should be willing to pay $5,000+

Dont make it a bigger deal then it is. For all you know it could be a probe GT tranny, in that case it has the same 4.38 gear ratio as the MX3. The 626 and mx6 have the longer drive and is in my opinion a better tranny to have if you do alot of highway driving and are somewhat conscious of fuel economy. As for acceleration, I dont think you will really lose out on anything, tons of im-ports are running 4.11 gears.

@ whitefinish, just double checking, the tranny's are both in same condition. its a lot of money to spend and i don't want to be dissapointed.

@soloryder, it is an mx-6 tranny. And they car is more for fun, dont do lots of highway.

0-60's, drags that's what i like
